“Lovely hotel and good value”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

Stayed here for two nights with two other couples.
Excellent professional, friendly staff. The spa was very relaxing and our stay was
relaxed and comfortable. Would recommend this hotel to others..
Free wi fi throughout hotel was great.

Room Tip: Some rooms have little balconies overlooking the spa.

Our experience was a mixed bag. The hotel itself was okay. Rooms were alright, beds comfortable. Margarida at the front desk deserves a 5, the gentleman who runs the restaurant at breakfast deserves a 0. After waiting for a while he showed us to a seat. Then proceeded to ignore us for at least 10 minutes. While he brought coffee and tea immediately to people who came in much after we did. We decided to leave and walk to town. As we were leaving Margarida asked if something was wrong. When we told her she saw us in and went and talked to him. We got our tea and coffee, but he was never even remotely friendly. We had to track down someone else to get our bill. If all the employees of this hotel were like Margarida it would be a 5+. Sadly they're not.

Stayed here with my wife recently for one night. Very handy for Dublin and a good solid hotel with a country feel (albeit with views of the new housing/apartment development from most aspects of the hotel). Facilities were all good - restaurant, bar, front of house; spa area was very good and spacious. The lack of grounds and proximity to the village of Dunboyne and housing estates do take something away from the aesthetics of the place but this is a good solid non-chain hotel which retains a genuine warmth for its customers. Also great that it is only 20 minutes away from home in Dublin - good escape from the kids without having to travel a long distance!!

Dear doogo,
Thank you for your constructive review, following your recent stay with us.
Our location is indeed ideal, as we are in a rural setting while very close to Dublin making a getaway without the travel time very feasible.
Hopefully you will be back to visit us again very soon.
Best wishes

Stayed Saturday night with my husband. Lovely hotel and very pleasant and helpful staff.
I used the pool and hydro area - very relaxing and he used the fitness centre which he said was very well equipped.
Our package for B&B & Dinner cost €198.00 - dinner was lovely and worth the price - despite the restauarnt being very busy the staff were really nice and the food came on time.
We had breakfast in our room and it was really lovely.
Would recommend this hotel for the spa/pool - food and general ambience.
Very impressed and just on the outskirts of Dublin.

Stayed here at the weekend with my partner as we wanted a nice relaxing friday evening using this hotels spa facilities. I was very much looking forward to it with my partner. We paid 10 euro in order to use the spa facilities as part of our stay as this was our main reason for staying at the hotel. We verified with the Hotel during the week that the spa closed at 8pm. We entered the spa at about 7.10 pm expecting to spend almost a lovely realxing hour in their spa. We had just spent about minutes lying on the thermal suite bed, then we spent just 10 minutes in the outdoor jacuzzi before a member of the spa staff came outside to us and said to us "the spa closes at half seven so ye should have yer showers now", this was around 7,20/ 7.25. We were both really shocked and dissapointed. We thought we had got the spa times wrong, and left to have our showers as all the spa staff were cleaning up the pool area, taking away towels (they even took away our towels we had waiting for us when we would come out of the outdoor jacuzzi :-(
Still confused and dissapointed , we went back up to our rooms. We checked the spa brochure on our desk, and as we had indeed thought it said spa closes at 8pm. So we were very annoyed. We had came all the way up the country to avail of these spa facilities and had just enjoyed under 20 minutes at them before we were told to leave and told by a staff member that the spa closes at 7.30pm. We rang reception to double check with them what time the spa clsoes at and they said 8pm. We told them what had happened and they said they would look into it. They then rang us back and said they were sorry, that it shouldnt have happened and that the spa closes at 8pm. They said the member of staff working at the spa should not have told us otherwiose and they were sorry. We told them we were not happy to pay the 10 euro and they agreed to this and said of course not.
I hope this does not happen to more couples who stay at this hotel. If the staff at the spa want all hotel guests to be out of the spa by 7pm, then they need to talk to management about their concerns. They should not make up lies to guests and thus ruin their weekends. I have stayed at many many hotel and spas in ireland and have never been told to leave a spa, and have never been lied to by a member of staff. Just because that girl wanted her work done and everything ready for her to go home by 8pm. Well then the hotel should NOT advertise that the hotels spa closes at 8pm, if the staff tell you to leave the spa at 7.25pm. So dissapointed and for this reason will not stay at this hotel again nor will i advise my friends to. It was the worst spa experience i've ever had!!!! We didnt even get a chance to step foot in the pool :( :(

Room Tip: Dont let the spa staff fool you by telling you the spa closes earlier than it actually does!!!

Was givin a gift of a weekend away here as a birthday present. Dunboyne itself is small and village like , hotel just at village edge. Took us literally 10 mins from Dawson street . So rural but close enough to Dublin for a short break.

Hotel rooms are large and very clean and modern. Bar pricy but excellent wines. Restaurant fab ,menu not over priced , but food excellent , and spa was fantastic.

Its not somewhere i would probably have booked myself, as with weekends away from Dub tend to head further , but am thrilled i found this little gem .
