“Whatever you do; don't expect good food!”

We stayed overnight before flying to the USA from Dublin on a B&B basis with "free" use of the thermal suite.
Most of this much vaunted thermal suite was out of order and frankly rather grubby, but we did get it to ourselves!
At dinner we chose the "all day" earlybird menu.
There were only about three other tables being used in the massive dining room. Perhaps this should have told us something! Only two of the three main course options were available, the chicken being off. The lamb dish was perhaps the worst thing I have ever paid for in many years! Tough, overcooked, tasteless and sawdust like. The Salmon option was no better. We chose to skip dessert and walk to the shops for an ice cream!
The upstairs bar was "closed" so the few customers were told to to downstairs to the alternative bar. The bar staff then had to go to the upstairs bar to get the drinks!
Breakfast was equally as poor as the previous nights dinner. The final straw was the attempt to short change me upon check out!
However cheap the deal is, this place is just not worth it

We stayed at the DCH& Spa during May 2011, just after the Queens, and President O'Bama's visits, so Dublin appeared to be full, with no vacancies, other than a few greedy Hostels wanting 4* money! I think not...

The only real option was Dunboyne, and at under £100 with Two breakfasts and a Spa included, seemed a good idea.

So, after a good mosey around Dublin, we took a local Taxi (£25) to the Hotel and checked in. It certainly looked the part as we drove around the front entrance, very grand in fact, and we were not disappointed upon entry either!

Reception were very friendly and helpful, we checked in within ten minutes and went to our ground floor room, which was also very nice.

The room was typical in design, but a few feet larger, with a cracking bed, both in size and quality. The four-piece bathroom suite was a nice touch too, along with all of the usual expected fittings for a 4 star Hotel.

We also tried the Spa, and it was lovely. Despite one of the feature showers being out of order, there was plenty do do, with an outdoor Jacuzzi, Indoor feature pool and Sauna/ Steam rooms along with a few more nice surprises. It was mostly very clean, with just a few bits requiring a handyman and wire brush. Still great by most standards this side of Las Vegas. Don't forget it's free, as is the Juice bar!

The Cellar bar was also closed, as it wasn't Friday or Saturday, so not an issue, but I was a bit sad the other Bar was closed too, for no good reason, leaving only the Terrace Bar, which was pleasant enough, but something a little more 'Bar' like would have been welcome. Service and drinks were great all the same, and seating sumptuously comfy!

The Grounds are large, and lovely, and although it backs onto a housing estate as some people pointed out in other reviews, it looked clean enough, and not a problem, especially with the front views being so private.

Breakfast was included, and the full Monty! Eggs, Sausages, Bacon, toast, Continental, Black pudding, Hash browns, the list was comprehensive, and buffet stylee so easy to get a second helping with no frowns. Top marks here...

Our evening meal was £107 with a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, and three courses each. Each course was as good as I have tasted, lacking only a smattering of presentation to make it 10/10. Once again, service was good too. I really enjoyed this.

The overall picture is excellent, it's a grand place with plenty to do and see, nice staff, cracking food/ drink and high quality accommodation. i have no complaints, and I'm fussy within reason.

If you wanted to pick holes, the sauna had a piece of wooden backrest hanging off, and the floor drain needed a wire brushing. The bauble lights in reception needed a bloody good clean and de-web, and those two bars should have been open. None of this detracted from the remainder and what it offered, especially at the price.

So, if you don't mind a £25 (10 mile) trip from Dublin city centre, but would like to stay in a really lovely looking Hotel, this might just be the place for you.

However...

I wouldn't market it as a 'Spa' per se, as they would need more full time staff and a little more attention to detail to be taken seriously. As a Hotel with Spa facilities, it's fine!

Room Tip: Ask the staff about Room options perhaps?

The positive reviews on this site are all true. The hotel is set in beautiful gardens and the reception area is simply stunning. But what makes the hotel truly special is the quality staff and service, starting with the warm welcome you receive on arrival!

We had heard great things about the restaurant and decided to treat our youngest to a meal to celebrate her communion. A good plan obviously because several others had decided to do the same that day! The food was absolutely superb quality and catered to all tastes. Our little ones, are very particular about what they like and the restaurant staff and management were amazingly helpful and friendly - and only too happy to accommodate changes to our orders and make wine recommendations (which was a great help, when we are novices!) and even take a family photo for us – it’s those personal touches that added to the overall service.

Although the dining room on the day was very busy – the service was excellent (we got served immediately and there was always someone on hand to deal with things) and the dining room was immaculate. The place is relaxing and luxurious all the same time, so if you are looking for somewhere where you want to be treated a little extra special, I would highly recommend. Will be back for an overnight break next time!

We were looking forward to a relaxing time in this hotel. I had attended 2 weddings here & was looking forward to actually staying this time.
On our arrival there was a wedding party who were piled thick at the bar, it took 20mins to get a drink as no other bar in the hotel was open. Understandably the staff were taking good care of the wedding guests but to the neglect of the other guests of the hotel.
The room was a good size but was beginning to look shoddy-walls were badly marked, long crack across the ceiling, wall sockets not fitted to the walls properly. The inhouse advertising sheets & guest directory were shabby & had been written upon by previous guests-these could've easily been replaced! The window was heavily soiled by bird poo & cobwebs, cobwebs on the ceiling & there was even bottle tops & waste paper left under the beds which left us wondering how well the rooms were actually cleaned!!
We went down to the spa, service was prompt but the facilities were such a let down, the relaxation room had previous guest towels & cups left on the beds & the reading lights were broken-one was actually dangling off the wall by it's wire! 2 of the rooms in the thermal suite were closed & tiles were falling off the wall! The treatment I got was nothing special & not worthy of the price, I've had better for less on the highstreet! Don't even bother with the floatation therapy-the room isn't soundproof so you hear every door bang & people talking!!
I do have one positive-the staff were very friendly, the only positive I can really point out! Otherwise, this hotel-which is still relatively new-needs a makeover badly!

I decided to do something different and get out of Dublin for the night. After looking around I decided on Dunboyne Castle and I must say we were not disappointed in the slightest, we arrived early and were greeted with a very friendly reception at the front desk, after checking in we went up to the room (which we were very happy with), dropped our things off and went for a stroll around the lovely grounds.

Next we went down to the spa where we spent the next couple of hours relaxing, the facilities were great and had everything from a juice bar to an outdoor hot tub, it really felt like we were in another country.

Next it was time for dinner and this was really fantastic, I had scallops for my starter and veal for my mains and they were both of a real high quality and wouldn't be out of place in a michelin star restaurant. We spent the next couple of hours relaxing over a nice cheese board and finishing off our bottle of wine. Again the staff were very helpful and willing to help whatever way they could, even though the place was very busy.

To finish off our stay we had breakfast delivered to our room, this is the one thing that I usually leave hotels disappointed with but again the chef and staff were on the ball here, the food was still warm when it arrived and it was as good quality as the food we had for dinner.

I can't recommend this place highly enough.

This was my 3rd visit to Dunboyne Castle with my husband but have been here before on a girlie weekend and had my work Christmas party here also. It has never failed to disappoint! The staff are excellent, the rooms nice and big - mega comfy bed - which was so massive I could starfish in the bed without even touching my hubbie!!!

We had received an accomodation voucher for €150 for Dunboyne as a Christmas present, along with a €60 voucher to be spent on whatever we wanted while we were there. They had some great deals on their website so I booked two nights bed and breakfast and an evening meal - all for only €298 which only meant us only having to add an additional €90 to the vouchers we already had. Money well spent!

The spa is fantastic - even if you don't have any treatments, it's well worth a visit. The set up is ideal - lovely thermal pool, mini waterfalls, jacuzzi jets hidden all over the pool. Love the fact that the various steam rooms/saunas/hot/cold room and heated beds are tucked away all over the place so you have to discover them and it's this that makes it seem like the spa is never full. You could have lots of people using it but you never see that many...the outdoor hot tub is brilliant as well - nice and hot! Even when it's January!

We just ordered room service on the first night and ordered breakfast to the room on both mornings - all our orders were pefect and the food was hot. The meal in the restaurant on the 2nd night was beautiful - I had fillet steak and the hubby had the cod. The service was great and the restaurant was full which made for a really buzzing atmosphere. The bar was packed afterwards as well and they had live music which we really enjoyed.

All in all, a great weekend, my only regret was that I didn't have more time to spend in the spa. Lovely, relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable. I'll be back again and again!!

We stayed here in January for my birthday, one night and it was on teh city deal offer. I cannot fault this hotel and how they treated us, after a recent negative experience with a 4 star hotel on the city deal offer, i felt compelled to write a positive review about this hotel when it is in the same class and on the same offer.
This hotel was amazing staff were so helpful, we arrived early for check in and they had our room ready and offered an upgrade as it was my birthday! The spa facilities were amazing and they didnt charge to use a saune and steam room and call it some other fancy name to try and charge for it! We had a table booked in teh restaurant but canceled at the last minute as we seen the menu in the bar and sounded perfect for us! Food in the bar was perfect for what we wanted, our room was huge and airy and clean. Staff were exceptional and even canceling the resataurant at the last minute didnt seem to phase them.
Whats important to note on this hotel is when i mentioned the cirt deal voucher they didnt treat us any different and to get an upgrade on the offer was a realy treat, they were even quite relaxed about expiry date etc of the voucher.
