Lovely Restaurant, really helpful staff and great steaks on the stone. The menu while not extensive has a good choice Prices are reasonable and service is good.

I have never had a bad meal there.

I have had breakfast lunch and dinner here on different occasions and all were good.

“Food ok”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

First time at this restaurant bought deal on living social good value 2 steaks on stone for 22.00 euro. When we arrived asked if we had voucher were seated upstairs in a horrible poky room
Carpets on stairs really dirty.. Seated at table soon filled up with people who had bought vouchers also... Not really a good first impression for people on there first visit too restaurant food ok.... Toilets filthy... Downstairs looked much nicer but ovisily for full paying customers.. Looked at widow still to my right dead fly... Wont be returning.

“Good food, disappointing experience”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2014

The Mint Leaf is a 'steak on the stone' restaurant in the lovely village of Dunboyne. We had a 'voucher' for one sirloin steak for the price of two. We knew and planned that we would upgrade to fillet steaks as we had eaten here before and knew the fillet was really good. However, from the moment we arrived until we left we were very much treated as 'voucher' customers. The price of the sirloin on the menu was €22 while the fillet was €24. A simple maths calculation would tell you that it would cost €2 each to upgrade to the fillet?? No the upgrade would cost €5 each as we had a 'voucher'. We then contemplated the side dishes, and as the steak had asparagus on the side I thought that would be sufficient for veggies. Wrong again, the asparagus was not included in the steak meal on the 'voucher'! What?? Seriously. The whole point of voucher is to get good value, try out a restaurant and, if the experience is positive, hopefully for the restaurant to return paying the full price. We opted for starters, picked a nice bottle of wine, and added side dishes - and were happy to pay the odds. What I don't expect is to be treated as a 'voucher' client as if your money isn't good enough.

The food itself was good. My starter was portabello mushrooms with chorizo (mushrooms were a bit tasteless but the chorizo/salad was lovely)...other half had a prawn/scallop starter - it got the thumbs up! The two fillet steaks, on the stone, were very good, tender meat, very tasty. The chunky chips were lovely and the side dish of mushrooms/onions was also good. I opted for the infamous asparagus (all of two spears!!). We had a very good Shiraz to wash it all down and were too full for desert. As a gesture they didn't charge me for the asparagus - whoppee!

So overall, the food was good, but the experience of being a 'voucher' customer left sour taste and I'm not sure if I'll rush back again. A shame and a lost opportunity for the Mint Leaf.

As an aside, I was a 'voucher' customer for Ely Restaurant in IFSC, Dublin - could not have had a more different experience - we got the choice of the full a la carte menu, the wine (which was part of the deal) was fantastic, the staff were very friendly and helpful and we were certainly not treated as a 'voucher' customers. I have been back, we had our staff Christmas party there, I have highly recommended Ely to friends and family based on the whole experience of great food and great service.

So Mint Leaf - take a 'leaf' out of Ely and treat your 'voucher' customers as potential advocates and not as poor relations!
