“MAGNIFICENT SETTING”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2009

We returned from the Bozica yesterday.Whilst not top notch this hotel is in an idyllic setting overlooking the Adriatican hours ferry from Dubrovnik. We were welcomed on the quayside by a member of staff who drove us the .5km to the hotel. Our room was adequately appointed with a fantastic view out to sea.
There is an open air terrace restaurant and the two waiters both of whom were students were friendly, helpful and spoke excellent english.
The food was good with a comprehensive menu.Berakfasts were buffet style.
There are several terraces right down to the sea for sunbathing but the pool was rather small and this could be a problem during high season-the hotel was only !/3 full at the time of our visit.
This is essentially a resort hotel for relaxing, swimming and sunbathing. There is not much to do on the island-Sipanska Luca is 3 miles away and worth a visit-it is larger and more attractive than Suderad-the village near the Hotel Bozica.
We returned to the mainland by the hotel speedboat which was most enjoyable.
We would go again but not for a long stay as we are not inveterate sunbathers!

There is something quite impressive about approaching anywhere from the sea, and this is certainly true about arriving at hotel Bozica for the first time. The building sits majestically on it’s hillside in a quite simply stunning location.

This is a great little hotel, and one that we booked purely on the high recommendations of previous Trip Advisor reviews. I do have a couple of minor negative comments, and will get to those later, but will start with the many positive things to say about this hotel. The main plus point being the truly amazing location, and to help you visualise I’ve added a number of photographs.

We visited during the last week of May, at the start of the season, when the hotel was quiet, and the weather amazing.

The hotel arranged our transfer from Dubrovnik airport and this went very smoothly. They offered this free with the half board option. I would certainly recommend using their service as the alternative means using the public ferry, which is much slower, and only at certain times. The hotel transfer involves a 40 minute drive to a small harbour to the north of Dubrovnik, and then 10 minutes in the hotel speed boat. (Nice boat that goes very fast – be warned!).

Approaching the hotel by boat gives an instant understanding of the hotels’ situation, particularly in relation to the nearby village of Sudurad. The hotel building is new and fitted out to a high standard. The access to the sea, from the sun bathing platforms, the outside dining areas, the infinity pool with the most amazing views, all add to the overall impression of a quality hotel. The place is family run, and many members of the family ‘muck in’ in keeping the place running.

They are clearly working hard in developing their business, but we did feel, just a little, that they should also ensure that the guests they have are being adequately looked after. For example, we booked ‘half board’ but found it very difficult to figure out each day what we could, or couldn’t choose from the menu. Many items (whether ‘half board’ or not) were not available. The hotel has over 500 TV channels, but hardly any English speaking. I don’t want to watch TV on holiday, but in a hotel of this standard, with mainly British guests, could Sky News not be switched on? Just a few little things that in our view stopped this great hotel from being a fantastic hotel.

However, the staff are very friendly and obliging. Our room was upgraded and the food was to a good standard. It is well presented and we thought reasonably priced. All the rooms have air conditioning. The hotel also benefits from free Wi-fi. The attic rooms are not as pleasant as the other rooms, but this is reflected in their price and they are perfectly adequate. We had a small apartment (A25) which was great when travelling with kids.

The hotel seems to attract a quiet, relaxed kind of clientele (apart from the friends we made – you know who you are!)

The nearby village is 10 minutes walk away. It is totally unspoilt and offers 3 bars/tavernas (one of which is owned by the hotel), and one shop. That is it. It is a gorgeous little place and offers a change to the hotel food. After lunching in the village, we swam back to the hotel. It took about 15 minutes and was great fun. (Watch out for the sea urchins when swimming).

We had five nights at the hotel Bozica with our 13 year old daughter, and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you want hordes of tourists, English pubs, or late nights, this will not be the place for you. But if you want stunning scenery, a taste of Croatian life, good service and standards, and not the things listed above, you’ll love it. We did and intend to go back.

In August 2006 i took my family to sipan for a week on the advice of a friend. Our family loves nature, scenery, swimming and Sipan was WOW!

The hotel was beautiful too. We booked with a Cork company IAS Nika Travel who seemed the only people that knew about the island. They and the hotel laid on transfers and transport to the island and a tour around the island with Sipan Zafari.
The hotel staff were wonderful and the food not too expensive but very very nice.

The water was 28 degrees! the small harbour had wonderfully deep waters for the children and us to play in. In land is 1 road linking to the other side of the island, and the sunsets there where beautiful. Get your camera ready cos you will not want to put it away! Some wonderful boats dock, Chelsea football team visited whilst we where there, fishermen fix their nets and lizards dart across the rocks and olive groves.

Sipan was not a party island, it was the peace and quiet we were looking for AND MORE! When all you can hear are crickets, gentle waves, children laughing and the live band playing on the village green, its got to be paradise.

  • Liked — its location, its sunsets, its unrises, its sounds
  • Disliked — the day was never long enough

The Bozica is an excellent Hotel set on a cliff with panoramic views from most rooms and the restaurant, excellent food, swimming off the rocks, plenty of sun loungers and a great infinity pool set high above the sea. The best squid I have ever eaten in the restaurant on the quay at Suderad. you can sit in the restaurant and watch the fisherman and his wife baiting hooks to go out and fish at night as you eat what they caught the night before, fantastic. Easy access by ferry from Dubrovnic and well worth the trip. Sudurad is tiny by the way only 2 restaurants and 1 shop but very relaxing.

The hotel is superb, very well done using the highest quality materials and workmanship with lot of thought having been put in to all aspects. The location is stunning to look at and the hotel benefits from an optimum position to catch the sun all day round - only missing the sunsets sadly (- you can catch them if you go across to Lopud late afternoon/evening !).
The food is superb but expensive - but the expense for food appears symptomatic of the area as a whole and the quality of food here is excellent. Go half board if possible. The downside is that Sipan, picturesque as it is and Sudurad village is lovely, there are hardly any restaurants or facilities. The options for eating out are one/two taverna which is excellent easy simple food but not for every night. Lopud over the bay is beautiful and more of a centre, albeit quiet.
All in all a beautiful hotel for a week visit where all you want is peace and quiet and hot hot sun! Go half board or take lots of money for good hotel food and enjoy.
Beware of the wasps - there are everywhere!

We stayed at Bozica for 2 nights in August - and reserved 2 rooms adjoining for us and our 2 children. The rooms were small but modern and very clean. Although our room had a balcony, it didnt serve much purpose as it was pretty small and not really comfortable to sit out.

The location of the hotel is stunning - the views incredible. The staff are very helpful, and the pool, although small, is lovely as is the pontoon area for sunbathing and dipping in the sea.

Breakfasts are quite nice and relaxed. The food in the restaurant is good - but the service is slow, and the food is a little overpriced. When we enquired about pre dinner cocktails in the "cocktail terrace bar" we were told "not at this time".

We didnt venture to the local Taverna for dinner - but should have done.

Sipan is lovely and very uncommercial - we went for a long walk and found some lovely unpopulated swimming and snorkelling areas. Lots of wasps though!

Good location. Standard rooms with sea view are well proportioned, designed and furnished. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into the planning of this hotel and it has paid off. The restaurant terrace is a delightful venue. The buffet breakfast is of a good standard with omelettes and fried eggs cooked to order within minutes. The hotel dealt with our email enquiries efficiently.

Overall, dining at the hotel is disappointment which is a great pity. Meals are beautifully presented but expensive: on one occasion we waited almost an hour for 2 main courses. Several of us voted with our feet and spent many happy evenings at the local tavernas where good food comes reasonably priced. If the hotel changed it's menu they'd make a lot of money.
