We found the Cottage in the Woods very easily it is very well signposted while learning to take hairpin bends on narrow roads, great fun. Staff were very helpful, sorted out our TV reception while we sat in the comfy bar with a drink or two. It was a shame we could only stay for a day. Breakfast was huge, with hot coffee and toast as well. Excellent location, it was easy for us to meet up with our family group and also to go sightseeing. The leaflets in the hotel seemed to be largely for places further away though.

You are right about the bends but that is the penalty for our location so high on the hills but the reward is the view when you arrive - safely I hope. We of course, think nothing of it as we travel up the hill daily. I take your point about literature, we are only now receiving stock of local attractions. Maybe the warm Spring has caught them out. We do have an excellent "Things to do" leaflet with local places and trips for those who want to explore for a day and then return to us for the evening. Many thanks for your review.

Saw this hotel mentioned in a few hotel guides and it looked interesting.
Friendly and efficient reception.

The room had fantastic views - a nice touch being the binoculars provided in the bedrooms. Furniture was old but beautifully kept and perfectly in keeping with the age of the property.

Orders for dinner are taken in the exceedingly well stocked bar and when you are taken through to your table the very nice meal is served without any delay. Great selection of wine.

Would definitely book here again if we were to travel to this area.

We stayed here for two nights recently as we were doing the Land Rover driving experience. It's a lovely hotel, with fabulous views. The room was a little dated considering the cost, and I was rather disappointed with the lack of vegetarian options for dinner and breakfast but otherwise we thought it was excellent. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food in the restaurant was very good. The cheese selection after dinner is a must and their wine list is comprehensive to say the least! The owners obviously have a great deal of pride in the hotel and it shows.

As I said, the only minor niggles would be to update the rooms a tiny bit, especially the bathrooms, and offer at least another vegetarian starter/main plus some veggie options at breakfast that aren't beans/mushrooms/cereal. It's not a cheap hotel by any means and IMHO, a few adjustments would bring it to the standard it deserves in such an amazing location.

Room Tip: Pinnacles rooms have the best views

I note that you stayed with us for the Land Rover experience. I hope you enjoyed it, we receive good feedback and we are of course conveniently close to Eastnor Castle where it all takes place. I keep promising myself to have a go! I'm sorry you found the vegetarian choice limiting. We always used to have two dinner main course choices but found a massive wastage, so if you don't like what's on offer we can usually provide an alternative. Glad you enjoyed your stay and i thank you for your comments.

We found this hotel via the web for an overnight stay on our way from Cornwall to Scotland. Really pleased we booked and will definitely return for a longer stay. The position of the hotel is outstanding with amazing views. The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and tidy with TV and tea/coffee tray; always welcome after a journey. We had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent. We look forward to returning

Thank you for your review. We find that quite a few of our guests are using us as an overnight stop on the way to somewhere where it makes us about half way. My wife Sue and I do the same when we head up to the Highlands. Very pleased to read that you would like to stay here for longer and pleased too that you enjoyed your dinner.

We stayed at this hotel for an overnight stop and found all the staff to be professional, welcoming and very efficient. The room we stayed in was very nice and made all the better by the lovely views.
If only the weather was better - we could have sat outside for our evening pre dinner drinks!

We will be back!

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to book a room in the Pinnacles!

What a shame that you struck unlucky with the weather when the Spring has surprised us all by being so warm. The bluebells in the grounds and up the Hills above us are full out now and the swathes of blue look wonderful. They are about a month earlier than last year. Thank you for posting a review.
