Having stayed here previously, we suggested the hotel to other members of our family for a short stay for six of us. We booked a two-night break and had two rooms in The Cottage and a room in the main hotel. The meal on the first evening was very good. The only slight criticism was that the samphire served with the sea bass was stringy and not particularly tasty. It should have been crisp and taste of the sea - it didn't. The following morning's breakfast was excellent. The dining room service was impeccable and the serving staff very attentive throughout our stay - if somewhat slow on the second morning.

Unfortunately that's where excellence ended. The second evening's meal was totally different, perhaps a different chef? A number of our party had the same dishes as the previous evening and were not as delighted. In particular the sea bass, the venison and the lamb saddle/braised rib was over done, the salmon roulade was vastly different - not as nice - as the evening before and the samphire regrettably was the same as the previous day.

Other small irritations included the wrong newspaper delivered to one of the rooms, minor billing errors and packed lunches prepared for the wrong number in our party. It was also noticeable that the hotel is starting to look worn in some areas and clearly in need of refurbishment. Our shower curtain, for instance, was missing hooks. The sort of thing you expect in a Travelodge!

Now that is not what I want to hear and all I can do at this stage is to apologise to you for your second evening. In fact another in your party and I have had an e-mail exchange on the subject.
I raised this as a serious point in our management meeting today by way of an inquest. Two points on the other issues I would make by way of mitigation. First the missing hooks on your shower curtain should have been notified to us by housekeeping, however we did rectify the situation during your stay as soon as you brought it to our attention. Secondly, there should have been picnic vouchers in your room which would have solved issue two. Your order was written as 3 x picnics and not 3 x 2 x picnics. Again however it was spotted by you and quickly rectified. Shouldn't happen but we humans are fallible.

An overnight stay to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary was superb. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The view was spectacular. The staff were very professional and a great welcome was received. Dinner was delicious with wonderful service. All restaurant staff were very knowledgable about the menu and the food preparation. We walked up to the Malvern Hills from the front door and explored the woods on the way. We shall definately return!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view - superb.

I'm very pleased you enjoyed your stay having chosen us for such a special event. Congratulations on 20 years! Thank you for posting a review. Delighted you enjoyed dinner, the team playing their part and also the walks. If you had headed higher you would have burst out of the woods and had the whole vista laid out before you. Anyway, you said you'd return, so this is something to do. Indeed from the top you gaze into Wales and the Black Mountains and even down to the Severn bridges when it's really clear. Quite a view! See you again.

Although staying somewhere else we had the pleasure of eating dinner here last night. The menu was varied and pleasingly adaptable for my wife who is verging on being a "vegeteranian". The service was excellent in a room with the most magnificent views of the Severn Valley adding to the experience. Truly excellent wine list - just take lots of money!

Thank you very much for your review. I'm naturally very pleased you chose to dine here and that you enjoyed your meal. As to the wine list, you could indeed spend a lot of money but my mark up is £28 at the maximum so, instead of multiplying the cost x 3 or even x 4, it makes the better wines much more affordable. Hope to see you again.

We called here with our daughter, husband and teenage son for a light lunch on a sunny day.
It is a difficult turn off the main Ledbury to Malvern road and the directions are not very clear so we did a circuit of Holywell before arriving. Once at The Cottage in the Woods our efforts were rewarded. The view is stunning and the staff were charming and very helpful. We chose to sit outside but there is a pleasant lounge and dining room. Loos are clean and a good average.
The food was well presented and cooked with a reasonable selection. Prices were top average but reflected the quality of the establishment and the location.
Certainly well worth making the detour.

How wonderful that the weather allowed the joy of having lunch outside. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed your time with us. The directions are good from the main A449 below us when travelling from Great Malvern but not from the Ledbury direction. If we opt for the much smaller brown tourism signs, we will lose the large one facing the Great Malvern traffic, so I'm vexed to say the least. However, delighted you persevered and arrived safely!

We stayed here for a three night break. The room was excellent and well furnished, the bathroom was of a good size and well equipped. A nice selection of teas and coffee in the room as well as fresh milk if required. Breakfasts were well presented of a good selection and hot, the staff were very polite and helpful. The views from the dining room were fantastic. When booking ask for a room with a view, as we took one at the side of the Pinnacles building which unfortunately did not.
One slight problem for us was the hotel caters for dogs which is fine however being woken before 4am with their barking is a problem, we would suggest that customers with animals should be accommodated further away from customers without.

Room Tip: Second or third floor rooms in the Pinnacles with a view are the best

I was sorry to hear you said your sleep disturbed by barking of a dog. We do expect owners to keep them under control. Sue and I have problems finding good places to stay away with our dog which is one reason why we allow them here. However there are only selected rooms in which we allow dogs in order to prevent disturbance to other guests. Overall, I'm delighted you enjoyed your three night stay and hope your enjoyment was not too marred. Thank you for your review.
