We stayed for one night at this lovely hotel, with our Beagle in tow. It is nestled on the side of the Malvern hills with beautiful views from our room, walks from the hotel grounds to the top of the hills with well tended paths, lush and beautiful,a very special walk with our dog. The restaurant was very good , the food fresh and interesting, over all a good meal. The wine list was extensive and included a nice bottle of Amarone, which we both enjoyed. The room was well appointed, on ground floor and our beagle had easy access to the outside. Treat supplied for the dog, along with mat and bowl. Good size bathroom with accompanying good size bath. We all enjoyed our stay!

Thank you very much for posting a review. We are so lucky to have not just the 30 mile views but also the ability to walk directly onto the hills from our grounds. Great for dogs and great too for getting some fresh air into the lungs. The views from the top stretch right across Herefordshire and on into Wales, up to the Wrekin and down to the Severn Bridges. Amazing! I hope you will return.

A friend of mine has looked towards The Cottage In The Wood for years, he is a frequent visitor to the showground (flower mad, him and jean ) and when it came to chose a venue for our annual hotel break they chose to try The Cottage. What a good move he made. the setting is superb, nestling in the side of the Malvern Hills its 3 buildings are framed by the trees. Footpaths from the hotel lead up to Jubilee hill and depending on how energetic you feel you can walk for miles,On day two we turned left at the top and walked to The British Camp, an iron age fort at the end of a 3 mile steady walk. The second walk on day three was up to the top and turn right we then went as far as St Anns Well, a good spot to have lunch and get yourself ready for the return trek back to base. The hotel is wonderful, the staff are so efficient that you just have to ask and its done i.e.small problem in shower= sorted in next to no time, vegetarian friend didn't like the choice on the first night, two minute chat in the lounge while having drinks and perusing the menu, Chef sent several options, all just fine. This was typical of the 3 night stay that we had. Nothing was to much trouble , People very helpful, food beautifully presented and cooked to perfection, served with care and pride. I think the whole set up at The Cottage in The Wood is down to the interaction between Guests and Staff, i have rarely seen better if ever, would i like to go back you bet. Will i recommend to everyone i know yes i will. Great rooms, great service, great Hotel.

Room Tip: just ask for a room with a view you wont be dissapointed

Now there's something we'll have to live up to! Delighted you found us all helpful and "nothing too much trouble" - that's how it should be. The key as you say is the interaction between staff and guests. Difficult to get right and some find it easier than others, however I've a good team and they enjoy what they do and the chefs (my son is head chef) are all passionate about what they do. Now the ambition has been achieved I hope a new ambition will be for you to return!

Staff at treats you like family, dining with fresh foods and a chef who respects the ingredients as he combines them in classic and innovative ways, a wine list that doesn't quit and a pricing procedure that allows (encourages) fantastic pairings with the food, views that melt the hours and worries away, comfortable clean rooms, access to hikes at the doorstep, and a welcome spirit that holds it all together. Can't find a negative to report. Travelled from US to have a family gathering with child living in London and ended up taking every dinner at Outlook. From the first phone call inquiring as to rooms until we waved goodbye, the hospitality was comforting. My wife questioned me and the kids to see if anyone had ever stayed at a place with such wonderful staff. No one offered an alternative. If you ever wondered why the city folks go to the country on weekends, go to Cottage in the Wood and find out. Ross Foote

Room Tip: Room #7 in main house has spectacular view for tea ( if not on terrace) and gorgeous sunrise.

Dear Mr Foote,
Well, what a compliment from an American! America is renowned for great service, so to hear from you is humbling indeed. You were great guests too - and yes it does work both ways - and we are all delighted you enjoyed every aspect of your stay. If you are ever over again we'd love to see you.
Thanks for taking the trouble to post a review.

I first stayed at 'The Cottage' over 20 years ago and returned to visit family who live locally.
Again, I was not disappointed with any aspect of my stay. In fact, far from it. The warmth on arrival and kindness offered to my cousin (who has been unwell) was unsurpassed. Nothing was too much trouble for the family and staff who run this gorgeous hotel.
The views speak for themselves and the tables in the dining room are laid out to make the most of them. The garden was sumptious and dripping with shrubs and flowers and well cared for.
My room and bathroom were perfect - large, clean, quiet and luxurious and all the little 'extras' I needed...
I met up with John and Sue Pattin - the owners - while I was enjoying a full English with fabulous local sausage and congratulated them and their family who look after the Hotel to such high standards. Thank you again. Jacmac

Room Tip: The view from a room in the Pavillion would be hard to beat

I guess what separates a good privately owned hotel from a chain hotel is the "extra mile". We see it as part and parcel of what we do and what we are here for. We try to give our guests a good experience. We don't know what they may be going through or have recovered from in their private lives but if we can help them to relax and be pampered, then we've done our bit. It was lovely to meet you again after two decades. Don't leave it another two as I will have slipped from this mortal coil! Thanks for the review.

We stayed here using a voucher so paid about half price. It is a lovely location and perfect for relaxing after a day in the Malvern Hills. The restaurant is very good, with a good menu. There was only one veggie option but it was excellent. Breakfast was also very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
I would recommend this place to everyone!

I'm glad you used a voucher. It was a promotion and aimed at a low period of the year, so hopefully a real bargain. I'm delighted you enjoyed the break and would recommend to everyone. That's a real compliment. Sorry about only one veggie main course, we used to have two but found we had a big wastage. However, we are always happy to provide an alternative with a little notice. Many thanks for your review.

My husband and I have just returned from a one nights stay at the Cottage in the Wood and I can honestly say it's the best hotel we've ever stayed in. If you are in any doubt about whether or not to book this hotel, then believe me you won't regret it!

Let's start with the positives;

Location - breathtaking
Room - clean, spacious, well equipped, comfortable
Food - fantastic, high quality
Service - faultless
Value for money - it's not cheap but you get what you pay for
Overall - very impressive

There are no negatives.

We cannot wait to return - hopefully for longer next time!

Thank you Cottage in the Wood, you have made this weekend a very memorable one.

Mr & Mrs Sharratt.

Room Tip: The superior rooms are more expensive but the views are extraordinary - well worth it!

Thank you so much for your generous comments. We now have something to live up to to ensure no negatives when you return! We'll be here to welcome you and as you said, hopefully for more than just the one night. The area is rich in things to do - in fact we have a six page leaflet highlighting many of the attractions, houses, gardens, car drives etc.

Happy anniversary! I'm glad a memorable date was enjoyed. Many thanks for posting a review. The walks from our grounds are really enjoyable and can be just a stroll to the top or something much more serious as the range of the Malvern Hills is 9 miles long.Haste ye back as my Scottish friends would say!
