We booked this hotel for one night as we liked the look of the place. Unfortunately the room we were given did not feature in the photos representing the hotel. It was tired and plain with an unappealing view and a very shaky looking fire escape outside (which, in the event of a fire, other guests could enter our room to use by breaking the glass lock on the door - not very secure)! The carpet was badly stained in several places and the bedding smelt of TCP.

We did not stay the night, we were probably there less than an hour, but this was because our son, who was not with us, had an accident and needed surgery. The owner did not say much as we checked out but it would have been nice if he had offered us some of our money back (we had paid in advance), as we did not use anything in the room except one towel and two cups and were not going to be eating the breakfast that had been included in the price.

Altogether a very disappointing hotel.

Great service and really tasty gastro pub menu. Salt and pepper squid was scrummy and the steak and red wine pie was generous with good quality meat. Dad enjoyed the sirloin which was cooked perfectly.
Nice ambience. Will be back soon.

From the moment we arrived owner Chris and his staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. The food was outstanding! Chris is doing a marvellous job updating what was a tired little pub and turning it into a place well worth the visit.

Had a meal on Wednesday and I have to say the food is the best i have tasted in a long time I had the Seabass and have to say it was cooked to perfection and the wife had the stir fry and said that it was delightful. It's safe to say we will definitely be coming again

Good points: Large car park. Heating in room is efficient. Seems clean.

Single room: shower head attached by duct tape and not surprisingly leaked at best and actually no water went through shower ose. Plugs not attached to sink or to bath but at least available! Kettle in room boiled once and then refused to work so I assume the fuse had blown. Snores from room next door clearly heard through wall during the night. Curtains, carpet, fittings, etc. very tired.

In the bar at 6.00 p.m. music from a radio is loud and pervades both the bar and restaurant area. When I asked if radio could be turned down my request was greeted with surprise and refused. Therefore I took my supper of fishcakes to my room. Fishcakes light on fish but crispy and mostly potato at £9.95 with chips and 4 pieces of mizuno lettuce rather steep.

No idea about breakfast as I had to leave before service started at 0830 hrs.

Room Tip: Wait until it has been refurbished.

Dear Barbara

Thank you for your comments on your stay. I am very sorry that it was not the most enjoyable. The music in the bar is always a little tricky as different people have different tastes the music had been changed on request earlier that tea time. The fish cakes have been the subject of great discussion with our chefs and hopefully been resolved, I agree with you that there is no point of a fish cake that has a greater percentage of potato than fish. The kettle has now been changed unfortunately fuses can go at any time. A full refurbishment plan has been agreed but unfortunately we have had to put a hold on this as there were some unseen problems as there usually are with an old building like this. These problems will be resolved in the next few weeks and then we can start the refurbishment program, My apologies once again.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and found it to be well run and friendly. The facilities may need modernising and a bit of repair but the breakfast was enjoyable and dinner very pleasant. We had invited 150 guests for drinks and sandwiches during the Friday afternoon and all we very efficient and well organised.

We would happily stay there again and would like to say thanks to all the staff for their time and effort during our stay.

Mike
