We found it just by chance, but it was quite a surprise. The food was great, cool bier and very good value for money too. We do recommend it!

“Amazing lamb!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

We walked past this tiny restaurant while very hungry and noticed a sign for 2 courses for £12.95. The beer is Greek and reasonably priced. We ordered starters of Mixed Greek Dips, which was interesting and Keftedes Lamb, very tasty and quite filling meatballs, both comes with salad. When ordering mains we found a few of our choices were unavailable, but that was understandable, considering it was bank holiday and a lot of their dishes are slow cooked for hours – so once they're out of it they're out. We had Kleftiko, a large portion of lamb on the bone (for an extra £2) and Lamb Souvlaki which was amazing! Both comes with rice and salad and we were completely stuffed at the end, we didn't even have space for pudding! The lady who served us was friendly and attentive and we had a great time. Definitely glad we didn't over look this place!

“Excellent food - best Greek in headingley”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

Lovely tasty food at a brilliant price. 2courses for £12.95, however would be happy to pay full price. Been here twice now and it's definite to say our favourite local restaurant. Very chilled out atmosphere with friendly staff.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

First the history: for years, the Olive Tree Restaurant on the outskirts of Leeds set the standard for Greek cuisine and gave a superb night out at a reasonable price. After a while it span off other venues (Olive branches!) but at about the same time, someone decided to make a bit more money out of it. Prices went too high, and there was a noticeable drop in the quality of the meals - the lamb in particular.

Ever since then, I have been looking for a different decent Greek restaurant within striking distance. For ages all that review and search sites offered were the various Olive Tree spin offs.

Finally I found the Agora, and we first went there four weeks ago full of high hopes. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. We decided to give it as second chance, returning a couple of days ago with the family.

The restaurant is in the middle of one of the main student areas of Leeds and the ambience is pitched to that market with a slightly bohemian feel (and none the worse for that). The chef/proprietress is a cheerful Greek lady and, like the rest of the staff, welcoming, cheerful and keen to ensure that customers have an enjoyable experience.

Unfortunately, the food does not live up to the early promise. The Calamari (a family favourite against which most restaurants are judged) is superb and the other starters we have tried are also excellent.

But the main courses are a huge disappointment - in more ways than one. First they are huge (with substantial servings of rice and salad), second they are hugely priced, and third they are no better than an average cook could produce at home and not as good as a domestic enthusiast might produce.

We have now tried several and all would be good value at the "cheap and cheerful" end of the market. At £12.50 pus they are poor value. Overall, £25 a head (including a bottle of wine, two soft drinks and the tip) is too expensive for this restaurant "experience". It has the feel of a small family business, with aspirations in price that exceed its achievements in cuisine.

It is a charming place run and staffed by very pleasant people. I wish I could recommend it, but at these prices I cannot.

“Little Greece”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

Been here a few times now and never let down by it. I always choose the Halloumi and then ordered the Kleftiko and the Moussaka, both were fantastic. After visits to Greece, Cyprus and Crete, i found it to be around the same level but right on my doorstep.

Atmosphere is great and staff are the friendliest around. The wine list is great and if you're in any doubt then just ask and you will get pointed in the right direction.

Would definitely visit again.
