“Very enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2013

We stayed here for a one night break and really enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was bright and spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. We had a delicious breakfast in the dining room overlooking the gardens. Although the hotel is only 10minutes drive to the centre of Leeds it feels like it is in the middle of the countryside as it is surrounded by trees and lawns. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

My partner Paul and I were looking for a location for our civil ceremony - and accidentally stumbled across one of Leeds' best kept secrets - the Woodlands Hotel! Despite living just ten minutes drive from it, neither of us had heard of it before. From the moment we drove down it's tree-lined driveway, and saw the well tended gardens and old-fashioned exterior we had both fallen in love with it. Stepping inside, we were both amazed at how bright and contemporary the interior was in contrast to the exterior. From that moment onwards we were determined to have our ceremony there. We weren't planning a huge fuss - just around 35 close family and friends - so the Woodlands seemed the perfect location for such an intimate occasion.

We then met Lauren their function planner, who was very warm and friendly, and not at all the push sales woman that you'd expect when trying to organise an event. She guided us through the whole business of planning our ceremony: from the layout of the furniture in the room, through the types of chairs, dinner menus, music options ... she made us feel like our ceremony was "individual" not just one of umpteen events which she must have been juggling at the time!

Part of the planning involved a menu tasting in their restaurant one evening. Here we were treated like royalty. The waiter Simon couldn't do enough for us; the food was absolutely delicious; and the chef appeared at the end to congratulate us and ask us for any feedback.

We booked the hotel back in January, we were in constant contact with Lauren until the big day arrived on 19th May 2013. Several family and friends took advantage of the special "wedding" hotel rates and booked to stay for the whole weekend. Myself and Paul also booked to stay in their penthouse suite for our "wedding" night. We all met up in the restaurant the evening before for a meal, and once again the meal and service was first class - this was despite there being a huge wedding reception taking place in the hotel's marquee!

On the day itself, Nigel and Emily were in charge of ensuring everything ran smoothly, and couldn't have worked harder to ensure our day was a success. They discretely ushered everyone from the bar to the ceremony room at the correct time, cued Paul and I when it was time to enter, time to make speeches, time to cut the cake - all those little things which need planning but the couple never think about! After the ceremony we made the most of the good weather by having drinks outside on the terrace - and Nigel even carried the chairs for our string quartet outside so that they could continue to play outside. We then made the most of the fabulous well tended garden for our photographs.

The dinner was as delicious as we had hoped for. Due to our small numbers we had been able to offer guests a choice of three starters, four mains and three desserts (we just had to let the hotel know two weeks in advance who was having what). The dinner was served quickly and efficiently and everyone commented on how lovely it was. We'd also been pleasantly surprised at the choice of drinks the hotel had placed at each table - a choice of red, white, rosè wines and bottled beer, soft drinks and water were all available. Many of our guests commented on how thoughtful it was that so many tastes were catered for. (It was also great that afterwards, the team brought any unopened drinks out onto the terrace so that our guests could continue to celebrate afterwards).

As the numbers dwindled and Paul and I were eventually left on our own in the bar, we decided that Woodlands had been a perfect choice, and that all the staff had worked really hard to make our day special. We decided to have a final nightcap in our room, and the night porter insisted on carrying a tray of drinks up to our room for us.

We had had a steady stream of guests up to our penthouse suite all afternoon (just to be nosey!) and they were all impressed at the sprawling rooms - dining room, living room, dressing room, huge jaccuzi bath, flat screen TVs, build in sound system - it was nearly as big as our whole house! With lots of complimentary toiletries, tea, coffee and biscuits. The whole suite was spotless and very sumptuous.

The other guests who were staying the weekend had similar stories to tell: their rooms were perfect and spotless. One couple even had his and her baths which they found to be a great way to relax in the evening. One other guest had (against my advice) booked into the Queens Hotel in Leeds City Centre and she was very jealous at the standard of the Woodlands accommodation compared to the price she had paid for hers!

Breakfast the next morning was again perfect. A good selection of cereals, fruit, juices, pastries as well as a hot menu: with friendly efficient service. We had just time for a final walk through the Woodlands garden before checking out and making our way back to reality.

I honestly can't think of one negative comment to write. I was impressed at how the staff treated us as individuals and not just a function from which money could be made; I was impressed that anything we asked for never appeared to be any sort of bother for them; and I was impressed that such a luxurious hotel existed just on our doorstep. We shall definitely return!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the twin baths!

Beautiful setting - good food - friendly and helpful staff - just what we needed. We ate in the bar and the barman was charming and we had an interesting conversation with him about the situation in Egypt. The food was delicious. The room was very spacious and quiet and plenty of hot water and fluffy towels in bathroom. Breakfast was of a high standard and the waitresses were very pleasant and helpful - and the chef made me some excellent fried bread even though it wasn't on the menu! All in all a very good choice and we will certainly be back.

The hotel was lovely and set in lovely grounds, and the room was spacious with a jacuzzi bath. We had made a reservation for dinner at the hotel at 7.30 however there was a power cut at 7 after waiting for over an hour we ended up having to go to a nearby pub for food we got back to the hotel to find the power still off and it was not restored until after 11! We had breakfast the next morning and the food was really nice, the staff at the hotel were all really helpful and friendly

After an tragic accident closed the M62 we eventually arrived at the Woodlands Hotel. Set in stunning English Gardens this hotel oozed Class however still with that warm Yorkshire welcome. After a crisp glass of chilled wine we relaxed and then went to the Sarsonet Suite, The room very roomy with fantastic views of the Gardens. The Double Jacuzzi Bath got plenty of use before we got ready for our evening meal. The meal was first class and so was the service. We retired back to our room for another Jacuzzi Bath and then a peaceful nights rest. Absolutely unforgettable. Thanks to all the Staff. Superb!

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms with the Jacuzzi Bath. Sarsonet Suite Excellent!! You wont be disappointed spen...
