“OK BUT NOT GREAT”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

I stayed at the Arden for two nights as it was close to the NEC for an event that I attended. The hotel staff were quite cold and very matter of fact, and ran through location of rooms and arrangements at breakneck speed. I would have hated to have tried to understand them if English wasn’t my first language. It felt like I was intruding on them and wasn’t a very nice or warm welcome at all. The room was quite small and basic with only a shower and no bath but it was adequate. Breakfast was ok and at least the lady smiled and welcomed us. The bar (where snacks in the evenings are served) was ok but there is very little seating area for quite a large hotel so it was a bit of a scramble for somewhere to sit. On arrival all our group had been advised to book into the restaurant as it ‘gets full’ but on both nights it was quite empty – to the point where we nearly gave up in the bar trying to find a table and went into it. The first nigh I had the misfortune to be on a very nosey corridor with people shouting and doors banging, although this is not the hotels fault it did show that there was very little in the way of sound proofing in the rooms. Overall I felt the hotel was tired and the staff were ok but not friendly or warm.

Dear Ms Harvey,

Thank you for your review on the Arden Hotel.

I am very disheartened to learn your comments on the service at the hotel. As the only independent hotel on Birmingham Airport/NEC site, we like to inject personality, extra comfort and exceptional genuine service, and I am sorry that you have not received this service from our front desk team, this is something that will be addressed immediately, as it is what we pride ourselves on - and should not have been the experience you received.

The hotel has a variety of bedrooms, the vast majority of rooms have both Bath & Shower, although a handful of rooms are shower only. We aim to honour all requests we receive for rooms with baths, or shower only (as is often the preference in recent years!).

I hope that you do come to visit us again, and give us an opportunity to show you the exceptional service we deliver, please contact me personally on 01675-443221 if you have a chance, as I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your stay in more detail.

Hi There, I ended up here after messing up my normal weekly reservation of the Hilton NEC. So ended up paying £95 room only, which is almost double whay I pay in Hilton!

That aside, the welcome was grand, the room was 3 star standard but clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Facing away from the airport - it is rather noisey!

We booked this hotel for HOYS as you could walk to the NEC. 10 mins to walk great hotel friendly staff and spacious quiet rooms. Better than we expected with shampoo, shower gel extra nice touch!
Friendly staff and dog friendly as well, we took our Yorkie with us:)
Would certainly stay at an Arden again very good hotel for a reasonable price and it has a great pool.

Just got back after two nights on business, Good price considering parking, breakfast and WIFI included unlike alot of other hotels locally. Staff very nice, Breakfast was alright plenty of choice, evening meal was very nice indeed. TV channels would have been an issue if I hadn't had to do work in my room. Would stay again if I go back to the NEC, just round the corner.

Recently stayed for two nights to attend an event at the N.E.C.
All the staff we met were very proffessional and courteous. No complaints about the room.
We decided to eat in the bar area on both nights and found that the standard of service and qaulity of food was very good.
The breakfast buffet in my opinion was excellent value for money and on both mornings we had no time to wait to get a table.
The location of the hotel is within a 15 min walk to Birmingham International Railway Station and the N.E.C.
When returning next year to the N.E.C we will definately return toi the Arden Hotel.

Just back home after a one Night Stay on Saturday Night, stayed here last year and thought we would again this year as it is so close to the NEC.

Check in was Very Good, easy and a very nice , helpful young man checked us in.
Our rooms, 1 twin for our Daughters and a Double for us were so so, you get what you pay for and at £75.00 per room (No Breakfast) was OK, yes the rooms are not Brand New but you get what you pay for.
Only 2 Problems we had, it was sooooooooooo HOT in both roms ! Even with the window open and the Bed was Rubbish ! Far to Soft for us, felt like we were on a Water Bed but if you like that kind of thing you'll be fine(We had room 133)

We didn't have breakfast there this year(took our own Porridge Pots) and when we checked out at 9.30 to see a VERY LONG Q waiting to go into Breakfast, we were more than pleased.
To be fair we never ate at the Hotel as the Food last year really put us off.

In short, it's Fine for an overnight stay when you've been to the NEC and that's about it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the motorway

We stayed in the Arden for 1 night prior to catching an early morning flight from Birmingham airport which is only a few minutes away. Check in was easy and the rooms were clean and comfy. We ate a good meal in the restaurant which cost £19 for 3 courses and we had a good bottle of wine for £16. After eating our meals we had a few drinks in the bar. We thought the food and drink prices were good compared to other hotels we have used. Our early morning departure meant that we were not able to have a breakfast at the hotel. The hotel also offers the facility to leave your car at the hotel while you are away and they will book a taxi to take you to the airport.
