Myself and a group of friends stayed overnight at The Arden to break a long journey south allthough not attending the NEC the hotel is close enough to see the domes from bedroom windows. From check in to check out the service was friendly and efficient. Having previousy stayed at all the more well known N.E.C. hotels I was amazed at the value, from a sandwich in my room with no added on tray charge , the price of drinks in the bar and an excellent Table De Hote dinner @ £18.95. Thats not to forget a very competitive room rate which included an excellent breakfast .For those of us on room only rates breakfast was £10.00 which is well under the average price. I was so impressed I stayed again on my return journey. Having managed to catch two mackeral on my fishing trip I fancied meat for dinner ! so I pushed the boat out and had the house special fillet steak Diane it is dearer than the T.D.H but you have the theatre of it being cooked at your table by the Maitre de hotel with lashings of Cognac flamed with cream and mushrooms etc you then receive a booklet with the recipe and facts about the dish such as since the family owners of the hotel introduced the dish 42 years ago they have prepared over 100.000 steaks. If you are in the area attending the N.E.C save some of your expenses by staying here.but book early they are very busy.

Room Tip: stay over before a flight and get free parking.

Ask to stay in the new part of the hotel. Free parking if going on holiday from Birmingham Internationla Airport provided stay one night at least. Lounge bar and restaurant all open to non residents. Comfy sofas and if you have time check out the free use of leisure club .Take your swimming costume and relax in the jacuzzi. This is a real find with old fashioned service like you rarely get these days. Reception staff extremely welcoming and the restaurant has beautiful table settings and tablecoths and napkins/fresh flowers. Just beautiful. £20 3 course dinner and coffee/chocolates.

Room Tip: telephone them/ ask if can do an upgrade to suite.

Stayed 1 night as we were attending a concert at the LG Arena with friends. Although cosmetically the hotel is tired and probably due for a refurb, we found the hotel clean and comfortable. The reception staff were very helpful we were able to check in early, car parking was free. Bedding and towels, a good standard. We would have liked to have eaten our evening meal in the hotel but as service did not start until 6.30pm it did not give us enough time.We would not hesitate returning, and had a very pleasant stay which we found excellent value

Thank you for your kind words. I am guessing you stayed for the Andre Rieu concert, and I accept the level of demand for early restaurant meals caught us by surprise - it is unusual and I guess a positive reflection of the demographic of customers staying for this concert. Although little comfort for you, we opened the restaurant early on the following night. We look forward to welcoming you again.

Good location for nec, good that there's a free car park, no air con so rms got v warm, rms/shower quite dated but does the job not sure wot the b'fast consisted of as for nearly £10 we decided not to bother ! Room doors could be heard banging closed for most of the night as almost impossible to shut them without making any noise certainly wouldn't be happy if we had paid full price for this hotel but did hd job for one night

Background...
I was travelling with my partner from Manchester to visit the Gadget Show Live at the NEC. Decided to stay over for 1 night. Found the Ramada Encore NEC for £40 something for 1 night with free parking and free wifi in every room - seemed to be the cheapest hotel that included free parking (which we needed) within walking distance of the NEC so we didn't have to pay £8+ to park at the actual NEC. 2 days before travelling the Ramada Encore called to say they had problems with the hotel and we had been moved to the Arden and they would sort everything out - and it wouldn't cost anymore - they also said it still had parking and wifi.

Turns out they had also paid for us to have free breakfast at the hotel even though they specifically said they hadn't but sadly the wifi costs £10 per 24 hours (it's BT Openzone).

Things I liked...
- Walking distance from the NEC
- The manager was on reception when we arrived and he guessed why we were there and told us the NEC was walking distance away and explained how to get there. He seemed quite friendly
- The bed was comfy
- We were able to checkin at around noon when checkin isn't meant to be until 1300

Things I didn't like...
- It was quite old fashioned
- There wasn't free wifi as we had been promised and it cost £10 per 24 hours on BT Openzone which was available in our room
- There was no veggie sausages at breakfast, and the hash browns, eggs, mushrooms were all a bit rubbish - not bad - just not great
The water pressure was realy powerful and then would randomly cut off completely every 30 seconds for about 2 seconds
- The shower was powerful but far too low down
- Behind/under the bed and behind the TV was quite dirty
- The telephone didn't tell you how to call reception or anywhere for that matter - I guessed '0' and was right
- The website did not say what time checkin/checkout was at
- I wasn't asked if I needed an extra keycard even though 2 of us were staying in the room
- On checkout, there was 1 girl on reception, on the phone and people were just leaving there room keys in front of her in a pile - there was no acknowledgment or box to put keys in or anything - and no other staff at reception at 11am (peak checkout time?)
- The car park was VERY busy and we could barely find a space!

Thank you for your comments, particularly your positive ones, and I apologise for the negative aspects of your stay. I suspect that the fact you were a book out from the Ramada there may have been a break down in communication with regard to the cost of your broadband. We choose BT Openzone as they are the market leader and many of our guests who have an account with them do not pay any extra to access it. It is extremely unusual for the carpark to be completely full and trust you were able to find a space.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful.
The room was clean and tidy, but starting to look a little tired and faded in places.
The pool and leisure suite is small but, the staff were friendly and helpful.
The bar staff were a bit slow and disinterested, but the prices were reasonable.
We ate in the restaurant and had a very nice meal. I'm not sure that £28 for steak Diane and chips is good value for money though.
Take care when booking, room rates do not appear to include breakfast

Thank you for your positive review, and yes you are correct we generally don't include breakfast within our on line rates. It is something we are looking into and hope to be able to offer bed and breakfast rates booked via our website in the not too distant future. Obviously B&B rates are available for reservations made directly. Steak Diane, which is our house speciality (and has been on our menu for the past 42 years!), is in fact also our most expensive dish. As a comparison our 3 course Table D'hote is £18.95. We look forward to welcoming you again.

I found that the hotel was quite outdated and that it needs improving i fought the restaurant was very dark and the curtains in the bar was hideous i fought the restaurant was pleasant but i was greeted by i believe the manager the smell of his odour was off putting and worse of all he served my main course i think as a manager he should be setting a example as for the bar i fought the drinks were slightly over priced one evening i was served by a bar member i could barely understand what she was saying when i asked about certain drink when i repeatly asked what she said she became very unpleasant and slamming things around as for the reception they were all very welcoming but i noticed during my stay on the night time they were very unprofessional on their phones and playing with eachothers hair and painting their nails
