Stayed here a couple of times, but early March had the worst two nights stay as the bed was extremely hard. It was two twins zipped together and all the lumps and bumps could be felt. Also, upon checking out we were charged an extra £10. Why? we asked. Because full payment wasn't taken. Huh? This was a pre-paid birthday treat, and we ended up paying extra. Not sure whether they were pulling a fast one on us or not.
The bathroom could have done with an update - including a bit a limescale removal in the bath. Did not want to use it as it looked like green slime/gel had been poured in to it, but upon touching it found it be be limescale from a persistently dripping tap. Could not open the shower door either and this took a bit of brute force.
Food was tasty but staff appeared to not know what they were doing regarding the cover charge etc and we waited about ten minutes in a queue before payment was taken.
I will stay again, but will ask for a softer bed!

Room Tip: Best to ensure that when you make payment you are not asked to pay any more upon check out.

I was in a group of 16 Golfers who have thoroughly enjoyed our night away to play golf. Although it was very cold which it has been for the last 3 months the courses were in a reasonable playing condition considering the weather we have been having. I preferred the Lakes course rather than the National but would play both again in the future. The value of our trip was excellent and the food choice at Dinner & Breakfast was very good although drinks were a bit pricey. It is best to visit the Bar near the pro shop for after golf drinks and snacks. Bedrooms were a good size and a large Balcony with our particular room. Staff were pleasant and helpful and would definitely visit again.

I've just returned from a 3 day golf package with mixed thoughts.

The good points
- the hotel complex is clean and relatively modern
- golf packages are fairly well-priced
- restaurant food is good
- good size bedrooms
- the Lakes courses if a fun challenge
- very friendly Welsh staff

The poor points
- everything costs extra once you arrive
- £29 allowance per night for food doesn't allow you to have drinks but happily takes 12% service charge off
- buggies cost £25 per round, but members are only charged £8
- even the course guides are £5

Despite having a good 3 day break I won't be returning here. The way that everything is charged once you're there is designed purely to compensate for the initially competitive package prices - even the staff seemed embarrassed at times.

The whole 'lure you in' approach spoiled an otherwise good break.

Experienced the full facilities of the hotel during a three day romantic break. Easy to find and accessible from the M4. On arrival, reception personnel were most helpful and accommodated our request to upgrade to an executive room. The room was spacious, bed was comfortable however room temperature is controlled by reception by making a phone call!!!? WiFi was not free in this room which is surprising as it's totally free in the hotel public areas. Golfing facilities were very good however the Lake Course is only available to members at the weekends. The gym is well laid out, high tech and catered for all fitness levels and abilties. The pool, sauna and steam room areas were also excellent. The restaurant food and service were good although the costs, particularly for the steaks, were well above London prices for this standard of hotel. The bar area did not have the ambience expected of this class of hotel as it was open to members of the public using the gym and spa facilties. The ergonomics of the hotel are such that guests using the spa/gym/pool etc have to walk through the bar in their robes/sports kit to reach their destination, under the gaze of the bar clientele, leaving the individual feeling as though they've just walked down an impromptu catwalk!!! During our last night in the room, we were kept awake by an evening event in a function room on the same floor however on check-out, a discount was given when this was drawn to their attention.

In summary, good facilities but room for improvement. Would we go again? Not our first choice but not that bad that we wouldn't consider going again.

Spent the night here last Summer, and I can't wait to go back! Obviously it helps if you are a keen sportsman (this place caters for Golfers, keep-fit enthusiasts, and rugby fans wanting to catch a glimpse of their heroes arriving to train at the WRU centre of excellence).

The room, which cost £69 B&B, was huge. Big, comfortable bed, balcony over-looking part of the golf course, and the best hotel bathroom I have experienced.

The food in the evening was also very good, as was the service.

Not ideal for a romantic break, but if I'm ever near the area on business I know where I'll be staying!
