Just returned from a week long trip on Countrywide Cruisers Sir Melleaus with Mum, Dad and two sons on board.

Good clean boat with all the home comforts you would need on a canal boat holiday.

Excellent orientation by Cliff. Even though we had done canal boating before managed to pitch the handover as if it were a refresher. The boat has a traditional stern which is OK for two but a bit cramped for any more to stand at the back.

Locks were a doddle, not much traffic considering this was the 1st week of the school hoildays.

Many comments from other established boaters saying that they like Countrywide as the boats are always well turned out and they are a well run family owned business rather than a big multi depot affair.

Pubs all along the canal with good places to stop and tie up overnight. The Anchor is worth a visit for a back in time experience, but only Wadsworth 6X is available....the pub has a nice garden.

We had one problem with the boat which was resolved with William responding to our phone call and him being with us within an hour. Thanks William.

Will we go back to Countrywide.....you bet!!!

We have just returned after a weeks holiday on Sir Ladinas with 2 kids aged 8 & 10 and 2 dogs. We have had an amazing time on our first canal trip. We headed towards Chester as we didn't want the pressure of having to complete a circle within the week. This was perfect for us as we stopped wherever took our fancy and we made use of the canal side pubs! We used some Tesco clubcard vouchers to pay for part of this holiday and this was no problem to Countrywide, they were more than welcoming. We opted for Countrywide as we liked their one price policy with no hidden extras, and the layout of the boat suited us. The companies website is very basic so we were expecting a basic equipped boat so I was amazed at how well equipped the kitchen was, which even included your washing up liquid, salad bowls, serving platters, jugs, juicers etc. This was a very pleasant surprise. The décor was slightly dated but spotlessly clean. I had read previous reviews complaining that the beds are only 4' wide, but you are on a 6' wide narrow boat so I am not sure what some people expected. There were also some negative reviews complaining there were no towels but nowhere on the booking does it say towels are provided. We were met by a very helpful lady as soon as we arrived and our boat was moored and waiting for us. We were given out life jackets and invited to load out luggage. We were then shown around the boat by a very helpful and friendly man and given a comprehensive step by step on how to use everything. He also offered to some with us for a short way if we were a bit nervous but we headed straight off. The week was amazing, we met some very friendly local people, and there was a real sense of community on the canal. We managed our first lock with no problems much to our relief! And the rest was plain sailing. We would recommend The Boat Inn at Gnosnall Heath the food was delicious, reasonably priced and the staff lovely. Audlem was very busy as there was a transport festival a few days later but it was a lovely village to have a look around. We had a few well earnt pints at the Shroppie Fly after 13 locks. The scenery along the canal was stunning and it was lovely to be able to moor up virtually where you want in the middle of nowhere and not a house or boat in sight! We turned around just passed Nantwich and headed back. For those with kids, ours enjoyed and few hours in the outdoor swimming pool in Market Drayton. Overall this was a brilliant holiday and we would not hesitate to book again with Countrywide Cruisers.

Booked and paid for by my folks for a family holiday to celebrate Mums 70th birthday, we have just come back from a nice week with Countrywide. We had the 8 berth 'Jaqueline' boat, which was an older boat on the fleet, but still pretty well appointed, clean and tidy. Priced very reasonably compared with the competition (much cheaper than Black Prince for example, although their boats are very well appointed). Mum has commented very favourably on the friendliness of the staff on booking, paying, queries and questions regarding the holiday. Price was fully inclusive of fuel, gas, etc., so no extras too worry about. All bedding provided, just bring your own towels.
We had 2 accidients while away (sorry Countrywide) - broke a fridge shelf and bent the tiller by getting it caught under the lock gate bridge on Lock 1 of the Droitwich Canal (watch out for this if you have a long boat!) We phoned in the damage while still out and Countrywide were absolutely fine about it.
All in all, very happy with the service, boat and canals.
A word about the Stourport Ring. A good mix of rural and industrial landscapes to see. We didn't to visit stop anywhere on route, just enjoyed the scenery, although Stourport & Droitwich looked worth a visit. Be prepared to self cater more than you thought - many of the canal side pubs were closed down, even the latest guides and Google seaches were out of date.

This was our second holiday with Countrywide, previously we did the 4 counties ring on Sir Galleron which was great although you need to crack on a bit to get around in a week.
This time we chose to do the Stourport ring, which was equally challenging in terms of distance and locks. We hired Sir Bruin which was a great boat, we particularly liked the fact that there are 2 bathroom/toilets that were en-suite ensuring privacy and less chance of waking each other up in the night!
The Stourport ring is a lovely route that takes in a beautiful section of the River Severn including the big ship locks that are quite an experience after the normal narrow locks you get used to.
We opted to miss out the Worcester leg of the ring and cut across the recently opened Droitwich canal (re-opened a couple of years ago), this was a lovely secvtion of canal with some quite narrow sections where the marsh grass has grown into the canal, we were lucky enough not to meet anything coming the other way as it could have been tricky reversing to make room to pass in places. Don't let this put you off however as it was a really nice canal with some interesting scenery.
The Tardebigge flight was a challenging section with 30+ locks in a continuous flight. We started up first thing in the morning and were really lucky to have all of the locks in our favour and very little downward traffic, we completed the entire flight in 3 hours, although at busy times it could easily take a whole day to complete.
Highlight of the week would be Gas Street Basin in Birmingham, we moored outside the NIA and ate out in Miller & Carter which serve awesome steaks, well worth a visit. we also took half a day to go shopping in the Bullring, a good oportunity to get off the boat for a few hours!!

A final point on the collection of the boat, we were met by a chap clled Clive ( I think!) who was really helpful, really freindly and relly started the week off well with his cheery manner, we had no problems with the boat and were very happy overall with Countrywides no fuss service, just what we wanted, we will definitely holiday with them again.

Date of trip 14.9.12 for 1 week
This was our first canal holiday having only previously travelled on the Broads.
The booking was straight forward and the price included everything so there were no unpleasant extras like fuel deposits, cleaning charges etc added on later. Our dog was also welcomed.
The boat we hired was Sir Fergus.
We were given a comprehensive introduction to the boat by Cliff and then we were on our way.
The boat was well prepared and was very suited to our needs.
The people we met on our travels were all friendly and helpful (apart one intolerant individual). The scenary was varied and the canal side pubs were a welcome.
We had hoped to get as far as Chester but after setting out we soon realised that this was a bit optimistic and eventually turned around at Nantwich.
Countrywide Cruisers were friendly and efficient and I have no problem in recommending them.

It was our first time canal boating and although quite scary to be left in charge of such a large boat, we had Sir Ironside but after a couple of days felt quite confident. We were shown the full workings of the boat which is quite a lot to take in but then things are when having not done them before. The locks were a little tricky till shown, and everybody is really friendly and helpful, one lady giving me a bottle of suncream as it was a hot day. We went up towards Chester and really thought we would make it in a week. There are many pretty pubs to moor up over night and the week flew by, the great thing is we had all our things with us and arrived at a different destination each day. It was just stunning. Don't expect to get that far, it really is a leisurely trip and the week flew by. Can't wait to go again.

On arrival, shown exactly what the boat did, how too use the boat and facilities. The vessel was immaculate, clean and tidy. We took over, loaded the boat, as 1 of us had used a boat before and had RYA qualifications we were allowed to go straight away, no trial runs etc.. We headed toward Nantwich, covering quite a miles the first evening before tieing up for the night on a recognised visitor mooring, no noise, no fuss. 2 days later, just outside Nantwich, after 15 locks, turned round and took a slow, meandering pace back toward Brewood. Peaceful in the evenings, no excess noises, lovely countryside. Weather was a bit wet at times, but the enjoyment of just going at what-ever pace you wanted, was enough to take all the stresses of work/home away.

We recommend this company to all interested in taking up a week or two of boating the canals of staffordshire, even the 2 rings or the four counties ring.....
