“relaxation and tranquility”
Reviewed October 16, 2009

We stayed at this hotel as a last minute booking having to rush down to Bristol due to an illness in the family, as we arrived late in the evening I phoned the hotel and spoke to John the owner who assured us we could arrive when we arrived and that he would be waiting for us. As promised he was there. The hotel is located in a small village called Temple cloud and is set back from the main roads and at night it is VERY dark . It was not until the next morning when we opened our curtains that we fully appreciated this little haven. The views are beautiful, and the quiet is soothing for the soul. Paula, Johns' wife cooked us breakfast and it was a case of whatever you would like they would try to accomodate.
The rooms are very tastefully decorated with all modern amenities, and are immaculately clean. The beds are really comfy, which is very welcomed after a stressful day.
I would recommend this hotel highly to anyone who appreciates the personal touch and dislikes the starch and glitz of 5 star hotels.
I would like to personally thank John and Paula for their hospitality and understanding during our stay, and rest assured we will be returning, hopefully under better circumstances.

Stayed here for one night and we loved it. We had booked a twin room, and due to a mix up with the reservation (not the hotel's fault) they upgraded us to two single rooms. Both were very good size with queen beds, new bathrooms. Very clean, comfortable beds, and with lovely views. Breakfast was also excellent and the staff were very attentive. I would definitely recommend staying here. Note that from the road you need to drive down what looks like a one-way/dead end road for at least a mile before you find it.

We booked a private room for our wedding annivesary and had 33 guests four of which were very much surprise guests having travelled from the USA without our knowledge. All of our guests had nothing but praise for the excellent service and the food provided. My wife and I had been previously to the restaurant and because of this decided to book our anniversary there. We were not disappointed with our decision as we were very well looked after before and during the event.

This review is slightly delayed, but my husband and I got married here in September 2008, and some of our guests stayed at the hotel, along with us.

The staff were fantastic, from planning until the end of the day they looked after us all. Nothing was too much trouble, and their 'can-do' approach makes a refreshing change to so many large scale hotel chains. The food was excellent, (and we were a bit picky..!) and locally sourced good quality.

The hotel is clean, modern and comfortable. It doesn't have the latest in-room gadgets or multi purpose shower head etc etc, but it must be remembered that it's essentially a converted fishing lodge, which is tastfully decorated and well maintained in a perfect setting for celebrations or business meetings.

If you want to know more, email me and i will have no problem with recommending this hotel. A rare find, in a tranquil setting.

I spent one night here over the weekend. The room itself was immaculate, lovely big bed, views of the lake and church opposite, very quiet and secluded. The staff were exceptionally helpful, friendly and welcoming.

The hotel restaurant was great. I had prawns in brandy cream to start and roast duckling with black cherries for a main. Very good food and exceptional service.

In the morning I overslept and missed breakfast, so I ordered room service of cream tea and scones. The chef had no scones and offered to bake them fresh especially for me! I was so impressed, it was tthe best breakfast I have ever had!

Truely fantastic hotel in every way. Next time I am in the area I will definately be staying there again.

Stayed here for four nights. The hotel is in a very quiet and secluded position, off the beaten track you could say, positioned
a mile along a narrow road off the A37 from Bristol to Shepton Mallet. From the hotel we visited many places in the area
with ease. The outlet centre at Street was one of the best we had been to. Bristol we found had so much to offer from The
Brunel connection to the whole city.

We had a room at the front above the bar looking out on to their own lake which was a lovely view, the only drawback is
that when the bar was busy you can hear most conversations.
On our first night we were the only guests, we had a very tasty and enjoyable meal from the very fair priced set menu and
were treated very well. Our room was a twin with plenty of room, and with that lake view to wake up to. We did have on our
last night, someone in the next room, we could hear them in the bath even the water swishing around!! (glad we didn't have
that for all four days). Each morning we had a very substantial breakfast to set us up for the day. We again were there for
dinner on our fourth night which was to the same high standard as our first night.

We found all the staff helpful and friendly.

  • Liked — Good food, good lake view, good position
  • Disliked — Noise from next room
