A delightful stay with Bernd and Janet in this unique homely barn , in the middle of a large garden looking out over the orchard , barely a murmur of traffic and beautiful sunsets at the end of the day. All we wanted and more . Bernd was helpful in every way even finding us two bikes for use during our stay , a badminton net to set up on the lawn and furniture for our barbecue . We are still enjoying plums from the orchard! The barn has a reassuringly well used feel about it , we could relax without worrying about a bit of daily mess. Yet it is also bright and inspiring , makes me want to write or paint ! The quiet country lanes and villages round about are lovely to explore on foot or bike , just the odd tractor to dodge . Do go and enjoy this special space.
Have you ever wanted to give a 1* rating just so you can keep somewhere to yourself? This is just one of those places.
Let's start of with the owners. An extremely friendly and helpful couple. We didn't get to see much of them as we were darting so much, but when we did, they couldn't been more polite and kind.
Now the location, Barrington. A picture postcard village with thatched roof cottages and beautiful scenery. The house is a 2 minute walk from Barrington Hall, a National Trust property.
Now the property.
It's located in the owners garden, but is private and not really overlooked, unless they are in the garden as well, but it never feels like you are intriguing. The building is fantastic and many would love it as their main home!
If you are after a sterile, clinically clean, corporate feel accomodation where you a worried about putting a teacup down, you will be disappointed. If you want a large beautiful property with a lived in feeling, this is ideal. Its large and roomy, with a basic but functional kitchen, with a washing machine ( thank you!), Fridge freezer, electric cooker, sink and plenty of plates, bowls, cups and glasses. You have a dining area which a family can sit in. There is a basic shower room (the shower floor can get wet due to the shower curtain). Downstairs are the bunk beds leading to the upstairs balcony bed room. This has a huge window, which over looks the garden, which apparently often have deer in.
As a family of 4, this was perfect and we would love to stay again.
Garden in full bloom looks better than the picture. Had an amaxing time. Lovely area for walkers. Surround villages and area very picturesque. Tesco nearby and lovely pubs in walking distance. Recommend visiting Hell Lane. Owners very helpful and friendly. Always a smile for us. Jarassic beaches by car worth while. Would stay again without a doubt. Very comfy beds.
2nd visit for us & was just as nice as the first time! Bernd is very friendly & helpful without being intrusive. Janet is equally friendly so we felt very relaxed. Very peaceful & lots of birds to watch- nest of blue tits attached to the barn & Hans - the pheasant & his wife are residents! Great location central to most things. Barn is basic but clean & cosy. Would benefit from a garden shade maybe as when we were there the weather was hot & there is no natural shade. This is a lovely welcoming base, may not have all mod cons but personally I don't think it's needed....will definitely return for a 3rd visit....In winter so we can use the log burner! Great break....
