“QUITE SIMPLY A WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY”
Reviewed October 14, 2009

Having just returned from a wonderful short stay at Shave Farm we are absolutely delighted to confirm the content of previous reviews which sum-up both the warmth and genuine hospitality that Kate and James lavish on their guests. It really is like a home from home; from the roaring log fire in the guest lounge in the evening where you can sink into large and extremely comfortable leather sofas, to the the fabulous Queen Anne size bed in the bedroom it's very clear that no expense has been spared to ensure that guests are made to feel as comfortable as they could possibly be. Truly a lovely place that we will definitely be going back to in the new year and will most certainly be recommending to friends and family.

A beautiful, well-maintained farmhouse on a working farm. Kate is the perfect host whilst her husband runs the farm (which never interferes with your stay) and serves up amazing locally-produced cooked breakfasts, which are fantastic (you can have fresh fruit if you wish). Rooms are clean and tidy and very contemporary, dining room and lounge are extremely comfortable and feel very homely. Dinner can be taken at the local pub and again, the food is very very good. Really good value for money, tucked just off the main road and easy to find. We will definately finding an excuse to come here again - Kate made us feel so welcome.

We stayed at Shave Farm for one night on our way to our holiday in Devon.

We received a warm welcome from Kate and were able to relax in the beautifully furnished lounge with coffee. Kate is so friendly and it was nice to find out more about the farm and dairy farming and all it entails.

Our daughter (aged 5) loved watching the cows being milked, seeing the four day old calves, the chickens and the peacock, peahen and the little peachicks (is that right?!). She had great fun playing on the trampoline and having a good run round.

The room (like the rest of the house) was furnished and decorated to a really high standard with quality bed linen, towels, plenty of space and everywhere was immaculately clean.

Breakfast was beautifully cooked and presented and most of the ingredients sourced from the farm. Our daughter must have drank a full jug of the milk!

We would definitley stay again if we were in the area.

My wife and I did not actually stay overnight as my Mother and Father in Law had brought my son down to Shave Farm whilst we were at Glastonbury so we could see him on his 7th birthday and take him back to the festival. We were given a fantastic breakfast with freshly laid eggs and bacon from the farm and the owners were warm and friendly. Having been at Glasto we really enjoyed the shower! and the rooms were excellent.
Thouroughly recommended

We chose this accommodation by pure chance, but if we have to visit anywhere within driving distance of this gem in future we will make it our number 1 choice.
The family couldn't do enough for us and provided a faultless service.
It is a working dairy farm, with pigs, chickens and even a pair of peacocks. The latter peered inquisitively at us through the rear door of the breakfast lounge, a comfortable room available for guests to relax in during the day.
The bedroom was clean and roomy with a huge very comfortable King size bed.
My wife was impressed by the large mirror and coat hooks in both the bedroom and ensuite. The omission or inadequacy of these in hotel rooms is a common complaint of hers, but not here. Nothing is overlooked.
The quality of the breakfasts, which consisted primarily of their own or local ingridiants, was undeniable.
Trying hard to think of an excuse to stay there again.

The rooms were lovely and the food was excellent. The milk, butter, cheese, eggs and breakfast meats are produced on the farm and were the best we have ever tasted.

The family who owned the hotel made us feel very welcome, without ever intruding. Nothing was too much trouble for them.

We had our three grandchildren with us and they got to experience things such as grooming a horse, watching the cows being milked etc.

I would not hesitate to recommend, and will certainly hope to return.
