Dalmunzie Castle

Dalmunzie has a lot of potential to be a luxury hotel given its beautiful location and historic premises, but it didn't come close. The reception was an absolute pig sty and the person on desk quite unprofessional. Not a good first impression. My room was drab and had a stale feel. The door handle was falling off, the shower fittings were yellowing and the grout had mould in it. I noticed similar poor maintenance around the premises, e.g. a latge brown stain on the roof of the sun room. However, the dining room was nice and the food quite good. Most of the staff tried hard to please but lacked polish. Overall, I was disappointed with the hotel and left with a bad feeling. Definitely not worth the £150. I do not recommend you stay here unless there is a complete overhaul of the place.

I decided to surprise my boyfriend with a night at Dalmunzie on our way up to visit family in Elgin. Having read the other reviews I was a bit sceptical but I went ahead and booked anyway. The prices were a fair amount more stated on the website (as it was peak season which wasn't mentioned on there at the time) and the website was having problems uploading pictures. I sent an email to them and they quickly responded with pictures and prices when asked. My boyfriend and I started off on our journey, taking the scenic route as we love it and once we had got to our favourite place we found the hotel was only a mile away right in the middle of mountains and countryside. We loved it and it couldn't have been in a better place. We arrived early so we had some tea in the lounge, the receptionist told us we had been upgraded to a better room (which I'm really pleased happened as they leave the doors open to the unoccupied rooms and ours would have been overlooking the car park - Poole room - instead we were overlooking the golf course and mountains ) The food was good and interesting, my boyfriend fell in love with the venison! Lovely breakfast. All in all, I was sceptical, not only because of the bad reviews but also I was worried we would feel out of place and not welcome because we don't normally go to such an upmarket place but we felt welcome at all times. We even felt like the only people in the mountains sometimes, especially on our 3 hour walk around the estate. Wonderful place, tad pricey, but my boyfriend loved the surprise so I'd say it was well worth it. Do go and have a look.

Went up to Dalmunzie Hotel for 2 nights which is ideally located for grouse shooting - arrived early evening after a very long journey to be personally greeted by Nick and Jennifer who manage the hotel - they quickly arranged a well needed beer whilst I was checking in - that's what I call hospitality !
Bedrooms are in keeping with the style and age of this beautiful house and the views are utterly superb.
The standard of food and service is truly exceptional well worth the 2 rosette accolade if not more , the first nights scallops were superb and the pigeon was delicious . The second nights langoustine and Gressingham duck proved the consistency of the cooking - well done to all at Dalmunzie and think you for a great stay
Would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting some peace and quiet with great cuisine

The staff at Dalmunzie went above and beyond in order to make our group of 18 feel welcome during our stay. From the bagpiper greeting to afternoon sandwiches and private dinners in the Library, every last detail was perfect! Our dinners were beautifully prepared and served by gracious staff. We were never rushed or made to feel like anything was too much effort. Upon check-in one room was a bit small for two guests, Jennifer and Michael never missed a beat and genorously resolved the issue. Thanks to you and your friendly accommodating staff for a memorable and enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: I would suggest spending a bit extra and get one of the larger rooms on the main floor. Some upper r...

Forty-five of us - family and friends - had a wonderful time at Dalmunzie last weekend. About a dozen of us stayed, provided with large and very comfortable rooms. Our cocker spaniel was made to feel equally welcome! The new chef, Richard, produced an excellent set menu, carefully chosen to ensure we could enjoy local(ish) fare including delicious smoked trout, pork and crackling, and strawberry sorbet. The service was faultless and we all had a top time. Most important of all, my mother the Birthday Queen, enjoyed seeing friends and relations all celebrating together. Dalmunzie is in good hands!

We had a first-class family celebration meal to mark a special birthday; can't fault the cooking, menu, service or general attention to detail. Thank you. As a long-term visitor to the hotel I can't help feeling the fabric of the building needs attention and the interior design seems dated and oddly cramped for the splendour of the building. It's a wonderful place in need of some loving care and attention.

Dalmunzie Castle is set in a beautiful secluded region with rolling hills and a stream alongside. The house itself is gorgeous - lots of history and rooms with personality, from the billiards room to the dining room, bedrooms and lounge, the whole house was charming and classic. The food was absolutely amazing - we had a 5 star dinner and breakfast which were both absolutely delicious! The service was lovely. The atmosphere was also perfect - very quiet and warm. There's a big golf course for keen golfers, and plenty of space for walking. Everything really was fantastic and in working order, a five star establishment and worth the journey for a quiet and peaceful getaway!
