“Bliss...far from the madding crowd in outstanding natural beauty”
Reviewed February 21, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

This is a cleverly extended old stone cottage that provides very comfortable accommodation with all mod cons set in the Black Wood of Rannoch in the most idyllic scenery of Highland Scotland. It is wonderfully relaxing to be in such a beautiful and remote part of the Highlands with all the delights of ancient woodlands untouched by time and the incredibly beauty of Loch Rannoch itself in every season and magically so in winter. The cottage offers every facility and embraces you in its warmth and simple charm. I thoroughly recommend it and I found it easy to entertain local friends with a kitchen that was well equipped and user friendly!.

We have stayed at this cottage six times over the last four years, which is testament in itself. We like it so much because it is totally worry free: we know that when we arrive everything that we need will be in place, without having to search for it - and that was also true of our first visit there. It is like going to our very own cottage - we have to remind ourselves that we really don't own it. If you forgot something at home - you will most probably fine one to borrow somewhere in the cottage! The garden room is more like a wildlife hide, from where all kinds of creatures can be seen, yet it also benefits from a beautiful wood burning stove, and if you really need it - a television as well.
The location is superb - just up from the south shore of the loch, it has everything that you need for a great holiday within easy reach, so that you don't have to spend the day driving around. The loch side road is almost traffic free, so when you turn in for the night, the silence is just stunning, likewise, cycling is a pleasure rather than an endurance. If you do some local research before you come, there are many things of interest in the immediate vicinity to keep your interest satisfied. If you are hill walkers like us, then there is plenty to choose from, even starting at the gate in the back garden. Overall - thoroughly recommended.

“Comfortable. Relaxing & peaceful Environment - home from home”

This is our 2nd visit to West Carie Cottage with the family and dog. It really is like home from home with all mod cons and very comfortable surroundings. Beautiful walks, secluded private garden and attention to detail throughout the cottage make it an exceptional break. The cottage really does have everything you need to relax and enjoy a quiet stay. We walked a little more this year and you can hire bikes and cycle around - our son was on the rope swing most days having a ball. I suppose you can make your stay as active or as relaxed as you wish. I cannot recommend this cottage enough and of course we have booked again for next year. The owners are very helpful and email you straight back with any queries you may have.

Lovely cottage and gardens, the kids loved the swings and the evenings by the outside fire are ones to remember! The first time we have not missed our own beds, so comfortable. The cottage is beautiful and the wood walks at Carie were so great we hope to come again!
Thank you!

Lovely cottage. Had a really nice feel to it the moment you entered. Had been very tastefully decorated and extended. Garden was secluded and just a few minutes walk to loch. Many lovely forestry walks around and just 4 miles from village. Unfortunately hotel under major renovations at the moment. Very peaceful and quiet. A very relaxing place to stay with walking, fishing, cycling right on your doorstep.

Booked the cottage for a long birthday weekend and invited some friends to join us. Even though it rained on the day the friends arrived it didn't damped the spirits and everyone enjoyed use of the BBQ, the rope swing, the campfire as well as the log burning stoves inside!. The cottage has everything you could ask for. Owners friendly and helpful in the run up to the trip, and arrived to find a lovely bottle of wine waiting for us. Can't recommend it enough.
