Didn't stay at this hotel but had called in several times 12 months ago when staying in the area so decided to visit again this year as we'd had so many relaxing afternoons there. Not open when we first called - only open if guests are booked in. Went back a few days later on the off chance that it would be open & it was. The 4 of us were really looking forward to an afternoon sitting by the open fire over beer for the boys, coffee for us girls & a good read of the papers. As it was, there were 4 residents already huddled around the fire trying to get warm as their rooms were so cold. We ordered a pot of coffee for 2 & 2 pints of Guinness. No Guinness available (unlike the previous year). The boys made do with a low abv bitter (it was that or lager). 7 pints each later (over the space of 4 hours I hasten to add) we called for the bill. £61.00 for 4 cups of coffee & weak beer priced at £3.85 a pint!!!!! We paid & didn't return. Sorry guys, nice looking hotel but at the prices you're charging at the bar, surely you can afford to crank the heating up or maybe offer more competitive prices & you would have had another 6 days of drinking out of us.

We booked this hotel for a couple of nights in mid January, having stayed here before a few years ago. Everything was much the same as the last times we stayed however I remember they had brilliant olives and smoked almonds offered with drinks but unfortunately didn't have any left this time. The main lounge is quite chilly unless you sit nearly on top of the log fire, as the radiators don't get switched on till later in the evening. The same can be said for the dining room however there's a great selection of food which should fuel some heat. Service from the staff is excellent and the room we had was very large though not overly equipped with toiletries but I'm sure if you asked for more, the staff would be haoppy to accommodate. We didn't go to the pool as it's not in the actual hotel and the weather was icy cold. Great hotel, great value, great location!

Room Tip: 212 is big and has a loch view. Bathroom is freezing as no underfloor heating and tiled floor!

Positives: A quiet and rural location with beautiful views over Loch Rannoch. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The hotel has an old worldly charm. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere and the food was good, but rather expensive.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and can recommend the hotel.

We had a last minute break here for 3 nights. We had a reduced rate for dinner bed and breakfast and found the hotel to be excellent value for money. We were upgraded to an executive room and had a very comfortable stay. The service from the staff and food was excellent. The reception rooms are a little tired and could do with redecoration but this did not spoil our stay in this 3 star hotel. The spa was adequate but again a little tired looking. Overall we could not fault our stay and the lovely location of this hotel would definitely make me want to go back.

This was our second visit to Loch Rannoch between Christmas and New Year. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff are really helpful and friendly (the darked haired Scottish head waiter was especially attentive to our group). We stayed as a large family group and our rooms were upgraded upon arrival. The swimming pool/sauna/steam room is fab, allthough the gym was out of order on our second visit. The food was yummy, and the selection for breakfast was second to none :) Would love to visit again.

We spent the most relaxing break beside the perfect snow covered mountains. The food alone was worth the drive from Edinburgh. We ate in the bar beside the fire cosy and comfortable. The menu was tremendous and varied benefiting from local produce. we ate smoked chicken chowder and the most delicious hake with a roast pepper and potato dish. The views were amazing and the staff couldnt do enough to make our stay enjoyable. A must for a quite break, we spent the next day walking in the hills opposite the hotel- recommended by the manager. We arrived home fully refreshed and with lovely memories.

Room Tip: We chose an executive room - spacious and with a beautiful view of the loch and the mountains
