“Lovely Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

We went to have Sunday lunch at the restaurant. We were nicely greeted and made to feel welcome. We were able to choose our table and the luncheon menu was extremely nice, with lots of choice and a good range of food. The food was excellently cooked and served. Drinks were also excellent, with some lovely fresh orange juice, red wine, etc.

Coffee was also excellent. One comment that I would have is that the coffee sugar was served in paper sachets, which for the class and style of restaurant wasn't (in my view) appropriate. other restaurants in this class would serve lump sugar or similar.

Thank you for your review and for choosing the Old Swan & Minster Mill for Sunday lunch. It's becoming really popular and helping us to grow our local reputations. Your review is a great endorsement of this and will help still further. Our chefs are all extremely talented and, together with high quality local ingredients for both food and drink, we're able to produce equally high quality meals.

I shall reflect on your comments about the sugar service. Personally I am not a great fan of lump sugar because the sizes vary, the hygiene can be questionable and it doesn't dissolve uniformly but I will look at what options are available.

Once again, many thanks indeed for your review and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Best wishes

I can truly say that the Old Swan & Minster Mill is by far our most preferred hotel accommodation. The staff are very tentative to their customers, rooms were lovely and clean and the hotel grounds are wonderful. It was so nice, we ended up getting married there. You wont be disappointed. Only one problem, if we praise it too much there wont be space for us to return in the future as we like to keep it for ourselves.

Room Tip: Rooms are all lovely and each have a unique and distinctive character to them. Hotel unfortunately d...

Thank you for your wonderful description of the Old Swan & Minster Mill and, of course, for choosing our hotel to host your wedding reception. Don't forget that our returning guests receive a special discount, which needs to be requested when you make your reservation with Shelley. Although we're already extremely popular, I'm sure there'll always some availability for you to find.

We look forward to welcoming you back.

What a nice hotel, we were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We had a small double room (really very small) but not a problem, it was very pleasant, and furnished to a very high standard. The surroundings were excellent and the food in the restaurant was also very good. Breakfast had a brilliant choice for hot and cold. Some odd bits and pieces of feedback for the hotel - They seemed to be a little short staffed at dinner, so after a 15 minute wait for the desert menu and a 30 minute delay before they were ready to take our order, we opted not to wait further for the desert. Probably did not do us any harm as both on a diet anyway! Asked for DVD player for room, but could not work out how to get it going. Maybe an instruction sheet would be helpful? And finally the windows were single glazed, so actually we got a lot of noise from from the main thoroughfare outside on one side and the internal corridor on the other. But all said it did not bother much at all. In summary, a really nice hotel in lovely surroundings with really nice and helpful staff. Yes, we are most likely to go back.

Room Tip: Go early in the day and enjoy the walks

Thank you for your review and for posting your wonderful photos of a great visit to the Old Swan & Minster Mill. We were delighted that you enjoyed your visit and that we made you feel really welcome. It's what good hospitality is all about.

We continually review our service in order to perfect it and your comments about the wait for food and the instructions on how to use the dvd player should easily be addressed. Equally we act on comments about improving the physical product, demonstrated by the fact that recently one of our guests noted residual noise to a particular bedroom. As a consequence, we fitted secondary double glazing and made adjustments to other sound-proofing to rectify this. Naturally we need to investigate and can only act when we know the exact room and cause.

I am delighted that you will return to the Old Swan & Minster Mill and so look forward to welcoming you back.

With best wishes

My wife and I stayed here in May 2013. We stayed on the newer side of the hotel. The rooms were nicely appointed and had good amenities. I would note that the ceiling in our room was a bit low so when using the shower anyone over 6 foot or so will be ducking down a bit.

The staff were very friendly and the book of walks that they provide you are excellent. The directions that you are given are extremely clear and take you through some lovely parts of the country side. We thought this was the biggest benefit of the hotel and the location.

The food and service at the hotel was great. Our only compliant was that we would often miss lunch service (as we were out for the day) and there was very little food / snack on offer until the kitchen re-opened for dinner. Having said that, we loved the dinner and breakfast that they served and the staff were as accommodating as they could have possibly been when we asked for food mid-afternoon. We would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a nice get away to the Cotswolds.

Thank you for posting a review and particularly for sharing your photographs of a lovely sunny short break in the Cotswolds. We were all delighted that you enjoyed your stay and highly recommend the Old Swan & Minster Mill.

Our recommended walks book has been carefully researched and offers a great introduction to the versatility of the area for our guests who are unfamiliar with the opportunities available. It was even voted by The Independent recently as the best guide of its kind.

Our business is brought alive and given its character by all the staff who work here and so it's great to know that this was achieved.

Once again, thank you for posting a review and we look forward to welcoming you again very soon.

We stayed in January, but had to cut short our two night stay because of the incoming snow. This stay was better than the last!
We stayed in one of the riverside rooms again. Comfortable, lush and relaxing. When we arrived we went and had lunch at the Old Swan. Bliss! We only had a starter each and shared some thrice cooked chips, but that was plenty! I had the smoked salmon and Windrush-caught crayfish... Totally blissful! My husband had the tomato and red pepper soup, which was thick an hearty, and very tasty. The chips came with homemade mayo, which was perfect. My husband does not eat mayo, but dunked each chip in it!!
The room was very comfortable and welcoming. Lovely linens, soft clean towels, and a good strong shower.... Couldnt ask for more! The treat of sloe gin is wonderful, especially sipping it whilst watching the river slide by.
A very good nights sleep, followed by the gorgeous breakfast menu. Everything was cooked perfectly, and totally delicious.
All the staff were lovely, and a lovely touch of a card from the staff in our room, congratulating us on our wedding anniversary. Such a touching memento!
We will be making this our special hotel every wedding anniversary from now on!

Thank you for returning to the Old Swan & Minster Mill and on behalf of Lana de Savary, I was delighted that everything about your visit was so successful. It's been a long winter for us all and the snow disrupted so many plans, although those guests who made it were able to enjoy our roaring log fires and wonderful wintry scenes.

Now that spring has "sprung" the setting of our "Inn on the River" is idyllic and there's hardly a better location than in one of our river rooms. It's great that you're planning to visit us on a regular basis and it will be our pleasure to ensure that each and every wedding anniversary will continue to be very special.

Best wishes and congratulations

The settiong of this hotel is lovely, an idyllic cotswold village with a stream and ruins. The grounds are very p[leasant and the gardener is to be commended . There are some very nice touches including giant chess sets, secluded benches, a pond , hens and a meadow walk. There is a spa and plenty of activities going on eg petanque tournament horse riding and we especially liked the book of walks that can be done from the village. The restaurant is in the old part and is in a lovely building, the Mill bit has been adapted very innovatively' and the rooms are immaculate but quite small. They have tried very hard to give it a 'small country inn' feel and in some ways they succeed( the large lounge area with lovely old furniture , newspapers and real fires, the tapestries and rugs) and in other areas they don't the corridoors, the general design and layout are very 'corporate' somehow. The staff were all very polite and helpful but I feel it only fair to warn people that because it is actually quite a large place there isn't always a lot of flexibility once you have booked the time of your evening meal, We wanted to delay by an hour one evening but it was impossible to do so and the reason given was because 'we are a large hotel'. This may not always be the case as we did arrive on the Saturday of a bank holiday week end .Once in the restaurant the food was excellent, the atmoshere charming and the service excellent. I would visit it again in its own right, but booking is probably essential at busy times. If you want to get away from it all in a beautiful setting and are pushing the boat out then this would be a good place.

Room Tip: First floor rooms are good because you can gaze at grounds from your bed and cannot be seen by other...

Thanks for writing your review and for providing a resume of your experience at the Old Swan & Minster Mill. Of course, we are all pleased that you enjoyed your visit and the de Savary family work tirelessly to ensure both first-class hospitality and a genuine attention detail throughout. Our "Inn on the River" is set up to appeal to many differing markets, which includes the corporate guest as well as those on leisure but through the little and personal touches, we can set ourselves apart.

Naturally we need to constantly refine our service and your comments about dining timings are duly noted and discussed with the operational team.

I do hope that you'll continue to visit the Old Swan & Minster Mill and don't forget that our returning guests can enjoy a discount for your loyal custom. We hope to see you again soon.

Many thanks and best wishes
