If you wish to rest your feet after or during shopping in Yarm's leading high fashion store or indeed the village itself, then The House provides a place to do it.Food is just what you want to top up your energy levels, not too elaborate but fitting for the day that you are having.A specials board, good menu varied for the seasons. In fact it is like a designer store but with food to match. From coffee to lunch blending in to an afternoon scone with cream/jam it's all available here under one roof. Staff great and happy to see you whatever the weather.

The cafe at The House is situated at the back of the building, in a conservatory, with a little walled garden area outside. The House is basically a dress shop but its cafe seems to attract the locals for lunch as well as coffee. The welcome is warm but the service is so-so. So is the food. I have had a good ham and cheese omelette here (properly soft and not overcooked) but I have also had very pedestrian salads with overcooked, hard chicken and bacon and (oddly) an overpowering balsamic dressing poured all over the salad before it is served to the unsuspecting customer! The sandwiches are also too "bready" with too little filling and plain, boring supermarket bread being used and the soups are uninspiring. Coffee here is good and it is a nice, relaxing place to stop off when shopping in the town, but I would suggest ordering from the lunch menu with caution - or finding a better place for lunch!

Had lunch with my wife and found the food to be tasty and hot and the service was very quick. However the decor is a little tired and the chair I sat on felt it had seen better days. The staff are very attentive and friendly but appear to be rushing around giving an air of being 'overworked' which does not help the ambience. The 'conservatory' area is light and bright but the main dining area has no natural light and is quite gloomy. A revamp is required of the decor to keep up with the quality of the food as there are a lot of good eating places in Yarm. The door into the kitchen is a little bizarre as it swings open into the small conservatory area while you are eating.

The whole house experience is one of expense whether buying clothes or food.

The food is very good but you are in a shop with a cafe atmosphere and not that of the French type.

It's good not that child friendly, more a place to take your mother for lunch.
