Cuisines: Cafe
Description: The light, airy café within our family-run department store captures on a plate the same elements of quality, personal service and good taste as the rest of the shop.We serve the very best teas and coffees to go with delicious scones and cakes that are all baked in-house here in Yarm. Even our bread is made on the premises in our new in-store artisan bakery.Or perhaps you’re looking for something more substantial? Soups, sandwiches and light meals are served all day.The café is a great spot to meet up with friends or family, take the children for a treat, or just grab a chance for a quiet catch up with the papers.Customers from years gone by may recall the coffee shop on our first floor. Rest assured, you’ll find here the same emphasis on fresh-made food created from top quality ingredients.Old favourites that people travel far and wide to find include our gorgeous granary Yarm Bread and the unique and best-selling Yarm Salad Dressing (the recipe is top secret).Add to these some fantastic new creations, and there really is no excuse not to drop by soon and taste our wares! You’ll also find an interesting range of food & drink and culinary gifts to take away. When the weather is warm, you might choose to enjoy a drink al fresco on our pleasant terrace.Strickland & Holt. Where every department is a world of its own.

This gorgeous little cafe at the back of an amazing shop sells the best scones anywhere!! Sometimes have to wait for a table as can be busy on a weekend but staff are always courteous and friendly.

popped in the other day with a couple of friends for a bit of lunch.. as we had been browsing in the shop and the restraunt looked cosy and inviting.. it wasnt very busy but we found a few dirty tables with pots on ,when we did get a table that was clear it still wasnt very clean ,crumbs ect.when my friend went to the counter to order ,she felt she was intruding!!! the staff were so busy chatting that she had to wait until they noticed her.. we eventualy after a long wait ..(why they wernt busy, lots of staff?)had soup and toasted sandwich, the soup was ok not outstanding, but the toasted sandwich was very dissapointing with hardly any fiilling and not very tatsy, not good value..we had a slice of cake each and My other friend thought they didnt look like they had been baked fresh that day and were some what dry..we all decided we woudnt go again .plenty of better places to eat on the high street.. wished we had gone to the Mocking bird its always great there

We were met by sullen staff who seemed more interested in chatting to each other, the tables were messy & there was no atmosphere..
Never again!!

Regularly visit Strickland & Holt on Saturdays for breakfast or lunch. Really delightful, quaint restaurant. Choice of food is lovely although they occasionally run out of things early but I am always offered an alternative. Quality of food is great and my husband says the coffee beats those 'well known coffee shops'.
Service is friendly and efficient.

Went for lunch yesterday with a friend. When ordering at the counter we were told that numerous items were unavailable as they had sold out because of a busy lunch time. They started serving lunch at 12.00 and this was 12.50!! Our bacon toasties contained a maximum of a slice of bacon and this was £4.95.The tea was very weak. The lady on the next table had waited at least 30 mins for a couple of sandwiches. I did not say anything to the girl on the till as I heard the way she had spoken to another customer and did not wish to receive the same treatment.

We're very sorry to read of your disappointing experience with us. At busy times we do sometimes struggle to make sure all of our menu items are available - it sounds like you were particularly unlikely that day. We will continue to work hard to improve this, as well as reducing waiting times. Please do call again and give us another chance...ask for Paddy Morton, the manager.
