“Great stay, warm welcome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

Stayed at the Quay Hotel for one evening whilst visiting friends and family in the area. The hotel is well positioned in between Llandudno and Conwy (no more than 2 miles to each in either direction) at Deganwy marina and has plenty car parking spaces for guests.

On arrival, we received a lovely warm greeting by the lady on reception, and although our room wasn’t ready (2.30pm) we only had to wait a few minutes until it was.

The room itself was lovely. We booked a classic courtyard view and where given a room on the first floor. The room was spotlessly clean and had plenty space, the bed was large and very comfortable (we got a very good night’s sleep). The bathroom was very large, very clean and no shortage of towels or hot water.

We had a couple of drinks in the bar in the evening and thought the prices were reasonable (for a hotel). There was quite a few people in which helped the atmosphere and the service received from bar staff was fantastic.

We also have no complaints about breakfast which was included in our room rate. There was a good selection of hot and cold options on the ‘buffet’ whilst speciality dishes could be ordered from the wait staff. Tea, coffee and toast where brought to the table within minutes of us arriving and food was well prepared, hot and very tasty.

The stay ended with another positive for us, with a very friendly check out by reception staff.

There is only one thing that I would suggest could improve stays at the hotel. The hotel has a guaranteed check in of 3pm (which seems a little late to me) and a check out of 11am (which may be a little early). Whilst guests can use the facilities of the hotel before this time (spa, sauna, swimming pool etc) it is easier to take advantage of these things when you are in your room. I would have preferred a guaranteed 2pm check in, which has been the norm in most other hotels we’ve visited.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your generous comments following your recent stay with us at the Quay. Delighted to know of your kind appreciation of our location, the warm welcome and friendly staff, lovely, spotless room and good to hear you enjoyed your dining experience at dinner and breakfast.

I acknowledge your point regarding check in and check out times, but I am sure you will understand the time pressures that exist to completely service rooms to our spotless standards. As you know, if the rooms are ready prior to 3pm, we can then release the rooms for check in at that time and if you arrive beforehand, all guests are welcome to use the hotel facilities prior to check in.

I look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Best wishes

Attended Deganwy Quay for an awards event.
Warm welcome and offers of help on arrival.
Excellent and friendly service; food quality particularly good for an event dinner.
Pool and spa very well maintained and again very helpful staff.
Warm, comfortable and well appointed accommodation.
Great views.
One gripe - why does a hotel in the heart of north Wales not offer S4c as one of its channels, particularly in this digital age?

Dear Guest

Thank you for your great review, after attending an awards event earlier in the month. I am delighted to hear of your kind appreciation of our excellent and friendly service, good quality food, warm and comfortable accommodation and great views.

Regarding your point on our TV channel options, I would confirm to you that we are currently upgrading the channel provision, which will include a much more varied choice in the future.

Do hope we can offer some sunshine for your next visit and look forward to welcoming you back on that occasion.

Quick revue...
A good base for exploring the north coast, nice pool and spa.
Ring them before booking to find out if they have bfast / meal options
The whole area is a bit pricey (restaurant fish & chips £17) assume this is due to it being in tourist land

The reason for 4 stars is that at £110 a night and £17 for a main, the expectations are high... The quay is very good, in line with what I'd expect for the cost

More details...
We were looking for somewhere to chill and relax for a few days and use as a base to exore from

I found the quay hotel on bookings.com and the reviews in TA were good and not many hotel options, especially not mass brands or B&B.
It cost £210 for wed/thu night other deals were also available if talking to them direct ie breakfast and and evening meal for £250-270

Easy to get to the A55 is a dual carriage way that gets you from Chester to north Wales with ease.
There are not many locally; but Llandudno and Conwy are nearby.
.
You can get to Anglesey, Caernarfon, colwyn bay, Bangor easily all worth a look see.
We went out to colwyn one night, hotel booked us a taxi via the hotel to The Mulberry for £9, we got one back for £6.. Book your own, not via reception

THE ROOMS
Modern, clean with a good design. Better than a premier in, but a few niggles... Wardrobe door that couldn't be opened fully. No major issues and if u upgrade to a river view it would be lovely

We used the pool each day which included a steam room and sauna and had a couple of spa treatments which were good and you get 10% off as a hotel guest.

Overall a good place to stay.. We had lousy weather and enjoyed it so if you get any sunshine it would be lovely

Dear Guest

Thank you for your excellent feedback following your recent visit. Glad to hear that you enjoyed your relaxing time with us and were able to explore some of the great areas of Snowdonia and North Wales.

Good to know you appreciated our stunning views with clean and modern facilities. Apologies for the design fault with the wardrobe door, I have spoken to my maintenance team to address the issue.

Look forward to welcoming you back for the next visit, do request an estuary view room and delight in our spectacular views from your own room.

I stayed one night at the Quay on business while attending a function. The reception from Sandra was warm and welcoming and made up for the long journey through poor weather. All was good and my only complaint - which is more to do with personal preference - is that I found the bed slightly too soft.

The breakfast was great, again with friendly staff and the food passed my kipper test - it was the real thing rather than the salty shoe-leather that too many places serve.

Will stay again should I be in the area.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your kind words following your recent one night stay. Great to hear you appreciated a warm welcome from my Reception Manager, Sandra and we passed your "kipper" test at breakfast!

Good to know that you will be returning, but perhaps you may consider a leisure break, rather than a business trip, and really relax and enjoy all that North Wales can offer.

My girlfriend said she was taking me away for the night the day before my birthday as a surprise. I love Conwy and as we approached I was amazed by the hotel. As soon as we arrived Sandra on reception was very welcoming showed us to our room and said don't open your card until tomorrow. So I looked on the table and there was an envelope saying Happy Birthday on top of a white box, in the box were 2 complimentary birthday cupcakes. Just those little touches make a great first impression. The room was really clean and very nice. We went for a meal and when we got back we sat in the bar which felt really nice and enjoyed a Hendricks and tonic (with cucumber) whilst watching the snow. Bed was amazingly comfy, had the best night sleep and in the morning had a lovely Welsh Breakfast whilst looking over toward the Castle. Absolutely stunning area, luxurious hotel and friendly/funny staff. Couldn't have suggested anything different they have it down to a tea! Definitely heading back at some point.

Room Tip: Estuary room with a balcony was amazing highly recommend.

Stayed here for one night with my partner in a twin room, we had to make a quick stay over in Conwy and I found this place online. Initially I had intended to book a cheap Travel lodge or similar but Im so glad I didnt! This hotel is really outstanding. Set in beautiful surroundings, it feels calm by Deganwy Quay, the Marina with Conwy Castle makes for a wonderful backdrop. Staff were friendly and polite, and the room was really exceptional. The room was very spacious, with a lovely big bathroom and some well appreciated touches in there. I loved the luxurious toiletries in the bathroom and the coffee table in the room had a nice selection of magazines to read. Tea and coffee facilities are provided along with dressing gowns in the wardrobe. Although a twin room the beds were placed close together so it felt more like a king size bed which was nice (although of course if you didnt want this you could easily separate the beds a little.) The room was comfortable and clean and it was on the ground floor so easily accessible. Breakfast was a great treat, a generous choice of hot and cold and as we were sat by the window in the restaurant the views of the quay made it all the more lovely. We also made use of the spa facilities having booked in a last minute treatment. Natasha my therapist was wonderful, and the treatment worth every penny. Also lovely pool and steam room facilities, if you get time to make use of these its well worth it.

Room Tip: If a standard double is a little too small for you and your partner opt for a twin room, the beds ar...

Deganwy Quay is in an extremely beautiful part of the world. All members of staff were friendly and helpful from the receptionists to restaurant, bar and room service. Food was delicious (if a little pricey). Room spacious and the most comfortable of beds - slept like a princess!!
Only fault was room not cleaned one day and the breakfast arrangements changed on the last day to a buffet style whilst it has been waiter service the previous two days (not a big deal). Can't wait to visit again. Did not have time to use swimming pool but it looked clean.

Room Tip: My room was overlooking the fountain area but I could still see the see - I would imagine sea views...
