“Amazing place!”

In August 2011 we got married here, and the whole hotel couldn't have been any more helpful! We stayed 2nights here for our one year anniversary in August. We barely left the hotel, making full use of the spa and pool facilities. Would definitely consider a return visit next year!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay in this impressive hotel. It is quietly located next to the lower Conwy estuary, with good views across the river and the overlooking mountains. Sadly there are no hotel grounds.

We were given an impressively large and comfortable suite overlooking the moored boats. There were outdoor chairs on the balcony, a large sitting room, an equally large bedroom with a huge bed, and a well appointed bathroom. Clean, spacious and well furnished, but with rather quirky lighting and televisions that didn't quite match the size of the two living rooms. My only other worries involved a lack of air conditioning and slightly firm pillows.

We were impressed with the food and the dining areas...the restaurant proved comfortable and the grill room even more so. Somehow we slipped between waiters' areas and had to remind the manager that we were still waiting some 20 minutes after being shown to our table: thereafter things improved somewhat but we ended by being served by three different staff and our meal lasted over two hours - longer than usual for us.

Portions were not huge but were well presented and very tasty. The wine menu was extensive and not too expensive, ranging from £18 to over £40 per bottle, and upto around £90 for good champagne. We enjoyed our a la carte meals (£30 each) - despite the quirky service: the staff were busy but helpful and friendly. Breakfast next morning was delicious with great variety, large portions and good local produce. Service was much improved!

The gym and pool were well managed, clean and enjoyable. The steam room lived upto its name but the sauna was out of action. Towels and lockers needed deposits. We both used the spa for back, shoulder and neck massages and the young ladies proved to be cheerful, professional and very good.

Our one night stay in the suite, with quality dinner and breakfast for two, and excellent spa treatment, came to less than £250: quite good value for a luxury experience.

Room Tip: Rooms that overlook the estuary give the quality views - even in driving rainfall!

My husband and I spent 3 days at the Quay last week. We had a very warm welcome on
arrivial and that warmth and professionalism continued during our stay, from the Manager
to the waiters and in fact everyone we came in contact with. We had a lovely comfortable room
with a beautiful view over the estuary and across to Conwy Castle. We were blessed with
lovely weather and to lie in bed and gaze at a glorious view bathed in sunshine was such
a bonus. The food was very good, but the menu was a bit pretentious eg. salmon with
cucumber and squid jus and nange of mussell ? We would highly recommend the Quay and
will certainly return.

Room Tip: Room 241 had a balcony and a lovely view

Dear Guest

Thank you for your valued feedback following your disappointing Sunday Lunch. I do apologise that you experienced a number of shortfalls of quality and service. I have discussed your comments with my team and we are currently re-looking at our Sunday lunch offering to ensure the very best produce is prepared by our chefs and quality service match. We have made great leaps forward over the last 12 months with consistency of service and food so I’m confident you will see changes in the coming weeks.

With regards to our wine prices the hotel offers the very best wines sourced from around the world, the hotel prices are equivalent to similar hotels of the Quay’s standard and location. The government charge VAT and duty on all alcohol so this always inflates prices in hotels and restaurant.

It would be helpful if you could contact me personally to discuss the issue and in order for me to restore your confidence in the dining amenities at the Quay. I look forward to speaking to you in the near future.

Kind regards

A group of Irish academics and business people stayed Thursday evening at the Quay following a eco-conference there as part of the GIFT network.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hated that we had to leave. The views from the hotel are stunning and the rooms had the wow factor (I wasn't alone in that feeling). I didn't use the spa and pool but others did and were impressed.
The upshot is that I feel they displayed in taste, food and service the best Wales has to offer. I intend to book a weed-day visit for my wife and I - sooner rather than later.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.
