“over priced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

Very expensive for what it is. Sandwhich was £4 for a veggie option (I think meat was more). Water was free so that stands in their favour. Not amazed by the service. Cake was good, but still over priced.
Definitely visit the Gardens if you can, but take a picnic

“Very poor quality cake!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

The garden is stunning but give the tea room a miss! Hard cakes not to be recommended. I see others also commented on the food. Would return to the garden but not the tea room.

“Gardens let down by Cafe”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

The Gardens here are favourites of ours, so we have been a few times, being a convenient hour's run from home . Went today with wife and her wheelchair bound mother.
We have eaten here before and been reasonably happy , but today was disappointing. The sandwiches , which are advertised as 'made today' may well indeed have been, but the bread certainly wasn't todays. Being a Monday it was probably Saturdays - very dry. The Tuna filling was stingy, disguised by a large lettuce leaf, at £4 a go, not good. We could say the same about the egg sandwich, £3.70. We followed with a scone, jam and butter, and again the scones were dry and very crumbly. Our senior citizen had some lemon cake, a huge doorstep of it but was also dry and unappetising.
Wheelchair access is fine, and there was a handy Disabled loo round the side - the main loos are up some steep steps, which meant mant non disabled people were using the disabled one, meaning we had a good wait to get mother in law in there.0
The Gardens are always excellent though a bit of a challenge if you have a wheelchair to push. We will return but take our own food next time. Of course its possible the food may be better on other days when fresh deliveries have been made, but they should not be serving Saturdays bread on monday if freshly made sandwiches are advertised.

“Food ok as long as you don't mind a long wait.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

The tea rooms are outside the Gardens. The food was OK as long as you don't mind queuing. It's a shame the staff work really hard but are so short staffed. Come on National Trust you can do better and be fairer to your staff.
