“Abbot's Fireside”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

This Pub/Restaurant has only recently opened after being closed for refurbishment. It has a new manager in a Geordie by the name of John Anderson, who if given the chance, greets you at the door.
The food is excellent and John is working hard at making his mark in a small Kentish village that at the moment is suffering from flooding from the recent weather.
The service is attentive and very good, and also has Bed and Breakfast accommodation. You must be prepared for work still going on in the background. But in all this is a cosy pub with heavy wood décor and a woodstove with comfy seats.
Give it a go, because I'm sure come Summer this pub will be thriving.

“Jay and Julie”
Reviewed February 16, 2014 via mobile

We had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant/hotel on Saturday 8th February. As soon as we walked in we had a warm welcome by Jonny who promptly asked us what we would like to drink. As we sat down we took a look around and noticed it was a warm and cosy atmosphere with traditional surroundings. Then without too much of a wait we started choosing our order. We both had the double cooked thai beef spice starter which was something like we've never had before. It was fantastic!! for main i had cod and chips which was delicious. My husband went for the sirloin steak which was lovely and tender and he thoroughly enjoyed it. For dessert i had the white chocolate mouse, it was amazing!! so overall the 3 course meal was excellent. To top this off you have the sounds of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin playing in the background. CLASSY... Jay & Julie

We had the Sunday Lunch menu. Portion size was good, quality excellent and not expensive. Can thoroughly recommend it.

“New management and much improved atmosphere”
Reviewed January 28, 2014 via mobile

We have had two meals in the last week having found out that there was a new manager. It turned out that we knew the manager from his old place of work. We were warmly welcomed and had a lovely meal on a Wednesday evening. The Thai beef starter was lovely, as were the crab cakes that my mum had, and the mushroom soup my husband had. We were given plenty of bread and ordered a lovely bottle of wine. The main courses were also good. My dad and I had cod which was accompanied with mussels and was herb crusted. This was served with spinach and lovely potatoes. My mum had lamb which tasted delicious and my husband had gnocchi which he couldn't finish as the portion was very large. I had the chocolate pot for dessert which was rich but tasty. All in all a very good evening. Excellent food and service in lovely atmosphere.

We returned on Sunday and found the lunch extremely good value and again large portions - we had soup and roasts and could not finish the meal or eat dessert.

If you have been before and been disappointed I would suggest trying again. Living round the corner we have tried it several times over the last few years. The atmosphere and service is now more friendly and we hope that the place is successful. Thanks John.

“Excellent venue”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

We had visited the Abbot's Fireside prior to the new management team coming on born, and the difference now is amazing. The whole place has been refurbished but has retained all the old world charm. The menu has been updated and now incorporates smaller portions for children and a great menu for
Vegetarians. The waiting staff were attentive, but not in your face. Both our meals were delicious and I loved the selection of puddings. It's a hidden gem that everyone should go and try. We are going back to try the Sunday lunch!
