“Good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2014

The chef did really well in terms of choice and presentation. We loved the food.
This was simple fare but at very reasonable prices when you consider the Castle environment you are eating in.
Well done the Chef and Dalhousie

“Bad service and lukewarm food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

Waited forever for lukewarm food served with the smallest slices of bread I've ever seen! Not just our table the whole restaurant!

We had breakfast in the orangery and although it was not busy it took 45 minutes from ordering to getting breakfast. feel this could be improved.

“Fantastic Meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2014

The Orangery is a lovely place to dine. The setting is great and you get lovely views over the estate.
Our meal was delicious: a great choice of starters, mains, desserts and drinks!
We would definitely come here again.

“Overpriced and dated”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2013

I'm glad to see that other people had a better time here than we did. We went here some months ago for my father's birthday to have an evening meal at the Orangery restaurant, which is within Dalhousie Castle. We found that the decor is dated and shabby, but we fell prey to our optimism and continued.
Big mistake.
The food was grey - I mean almost literally, the only thing that stopped them being completely grey was the addition of brown. Anyone who has spent the sort of prices that we were being expected to pay would be used to food that looks great and invites you to eat it. This food was like something from a 1970s cookbook; dated and not in he least bit appetising.
The main courses appeared and didn't look any better - not that it mattered, since they were cold by the time they reached us, due to having been served on to cold plates. They were sent back, and whilst we were offered the chance to order again, we cut our losses and left. The staff and manager were apologetic but they missed the point - even if everything had been hot, it would still have been completely overpriced. It is no exaggeration to say that, at these prices, you could eat at a Michelin-starred restaurant instead. I know where I'd go in future.
