“Absolutely fantastic”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

Though our stay was part of tracing ancient family history, this place is brilliant. Top accomodation, brilliant service and a magical setting, we had the best three nights of our four week United Kingdom holiday. The food is wonderful and great value, the service five star and everything is clean, well presented and up to date. A MUST if you are anywhere near, with easy access to Edinburgh and Roslyn chapel. Also a place to just stay, with walks, a creek and falconry on site, as well as the spa, beauty and massage facilities. We will make a point of staying here again next time we visit the UK.

We stayed here for a Burns Night celebration, which wasn't as 'traditional' as I hoped. Never the less, a wonderful stay, lovely room, friendly, helpful people, great bar and fabulous scenery. I'd definitely return.

We stayed at the castle for three nights in Feb 2013 for a special birthday treat. The building itself is full of charm and quirky features - our room was a themed room, it was clean and nicely decorated but it is due for a spruce up as parts were 'worn'. The bar is in the library and we enjoyed two afternoons drinking in there by the open fire. We spent an afternoon in the Spa and had one of the Dalhousie Signature Treatments, Lynn my therapist on the day did an amazing job and the treatments are well worth the money. We opted for the train and left the car at home so we were reliant on public transport to get into Edinburgh - we were disappointed that the average taxi fare into Edinburgh was £24! However, we did try the local bus service though which is great, £1.40 for a fare into Edinburgh (with just a 1/2 mile walk to the nearest Bonnyrigg bus stop, worth the stroll!). The staff were pleasant, polite and helpful - nothing was too much trouble for them. If you are looking for a place to stay that's out of the ordinary this is the place for you!

Stayed here on a two night break booked via secret escapes. We were upgraded to a four poster room. The room was lovely, although the bed did seem to take up the majority of it..but it was such a comfy bed I'm glad it did! the castle itself is just beautiful and although I didn't find the initial check-in overly personable, the staff were very very helpful when approached with various questions. The spa is very small but nice, there's a few things not quite working as they should, but i believe maintenance work is being carried out on this next week. Lynn in the spa was very helpful. we had the Rasul mud treatment and it was very nice. Only thing about the spa is that I think everyone, not just spa day visitors, should be given a quick spa tour, shown how everything works and perhaps given recomendations/suggestions as to how long to stay in, and what order to use the facilities. Our favourite part of the castle was the Library, which is also the bar! When the fire was roaring and we were both reading in the very comfy armchairs it was exactly the relaxing break we were looking for. All the staff were very helpful and Graham was exceptional when dealing with a slight hitch which was no fault of their own. Dinner in the Dungeon was superb, wonderful setting and food! Our only criticism would be breakfast, it seemed to be a real shambles and as a guest yes you don't expect to be able to be seated straight away, but it would be nice to even be acknowledged that you are in the room within the first 5 minutes of standing in the doorway. I understand that the castle really likes everyone to have space and enjoy their surroundings however 1 or maybe 2 extra tables in the room wouldn't have made it cramped at all. It's really not acceptable as a guest in a 4 star to feel invisible! The food itself was delicious, although slightly marred by the aforementioned wait etc. In saying that, we absolutely loved our stay at Dalhousie and one major highlight was the ghost tour with Peter, one of the night porters. I would highly recommend this and you get to see some wonderful parts of the castle, you wouldn't even know were there. Peter really knows his stuff. Dinner in the Orangery was superb, definitely some of the nicest steak, cooked to perfection we've ever had! We really are looking forward to coming back in the near future, the castle, the grounds and the falconry area are wonderful to see.

I was lucky enough to be brought here by my fiancé for my 40th birthday. It was a lovely relaxing couple of days. The staff could not do enough for you. The food was amazing especially in the dungeon restaurant. We loved the library bar, this was our favourite. The spa was small but we enjoyed using this. Overall we had an excellent time and will certainly return in the future.

Spent one night here on 30/12/12.
Check in easy, friendly porter to show us to our room.
No lifts so a long walk up three flights of stairs.
Themed indian room, large but tired and dated, filthy carpet,in need of a makeover.Huge comfy bed and dressing gowns and slippers in bathroom to use during your stay.
Used the small spa, only big enough to hold a couple of people at a time. There were beauticians on the desk but gave no help, we had to ask for towels and instructions to work the jacuzzi.
The castle is a beautiful property, full of character.
We took afternoon tea in the orangery, sandwiches were a little jaded but staff were good and its a lovely spot to look out over the grounds.
We had a pre dinner drink in the library and then ate evening meal in the dungeon resturant, couldnt fault this, food was outstanding with good service.
Breakfast was plentiful and a nice selection.
