I had the braised lamb shank which was not properly defrosted before it was cooked (microwaved). The consistency therefore was not like braised meat but much firmer. It was also unsettlingly red towards the bone. By the time i realised i should not be eating this i had had about a third of it, leaving the remainder. The atmosphere of the pub and the style of the management suggested that complaining would have been an intimidating process. In the early hours of the following morning i awoke with stomach cramps. These were painful and debilitating and continued for the next five days completely ruining the remainder of my holiday. Safe cooking procedures are clearly not of concern to this pub and you will be risking your health if you dine here. I have never done a review on trip advisor up until this point, but i have done so this time because i feel i have a duty to warn others of the very serious risks taken by dining here especially if you have children or are elderly. If you are responsible for food hygiene in this area and are reading this, please prioritise a surprise visit immediately. This has been my experience in visiting The Bell, please don't let it be yours too!

Visit this pub quite often and have never been disappointed with the food, service, atmosphere or cleanliness. This is a well-run pub and reading other reviews has slightly shocked me as I feel that although customers are entitled to their opinions, the pub they are describing is not the one I visit!! I do wonder if some people are just being vindictive or maybe a little bit too picky - this is, after all, a little country pub run by owners who are human - if they don't have a smile plastered on their faces at all times it could be because they, like the rest of us, get stressed - it is unrealistic to expect them to act like robots! Rant over. Go and try it for yourself - I doubt you will be disappointed.

As visiting "pub connoisseurs" from Canada for a month's holiday on Romney Marsh, we have now had chance to experience The Bell Inn at Ivychurch on many enjoyable occasions, allowing us to witness the consistency of their well earned terrific reputation.
The atmosphere is very sociable, making all feel welcome and part of the "family", the landlords, bar and serving staff are absolutely amazing in their hospitality, the food is well-priced and excellent, and the entertainment is first class.
We thoroughly recommend The Bell to all travelers and locals alike, as it is head and shoulders above any of the other pubs we have enjoyed.

We thought how about lunch on Romney marsh for a mid week treat, checked on the web and found a gem The Bell Inn serving good food, on arrival the pub looked good in the heart of the marsh, walked in to be greeted by the usual local boozers propping up the bar who turned around to check us out, and thought "Your not from round ere", we ordered drinks and were told immediately the only food available was "Pizza, Pasty or Bagette" We decided to stay although the staff were not that friendly and got the impression we wre not that welcome, we ordered Kentish Pasty and a Chichen & Vegetable Pasty. They arrived after 20 minutes, limp and red hot straight from the microwave. This pub broadly advertises they are the "Pub of the Year 2013"
Who decide this? it's not for thir food, it's not for their friendliness, it's not for their decor or good interior, it must only be the beer for the local boozers

This is an absolute gem in the middle of the Romney Marches. It has it all. Looks good, friendly atmosphere, helpful staff and superb food. What more could you ask ? Well, perhaps more car parking outside: when we arrived the car park was full and we had to park in a street opposite. Small detail though, and it just emphasises how popular this is. Luckily, we had booked in advance, so getting a table was no problem. It was a great dining experience. Do go !
