On Friday eveningjust gone, my girlfriend and I chose to dine at The Richard Fox restaurant within Leverhulme Hotel as it was her birthday on the thursday. We were very warmly greated by the receptionist and what seemed to be the Restaurant Manager. Both were very welcoming pleasant. We were shown to the bar where drinks were served and menus given. We were left to enjoy our drink and look over the menu's and chat, which was great, none of the staff were over powering or pushy to take orders. It was very relaxed. The bar was nicely decorated with some art and the seating a mixture of sofas and chairs with light music on in the background whihc complemented the setting and mood and also wasnt too loud or too quiet. Whilst serving our drinks the restaurant manager made polite conversation asking about my girlfriends birthday etc, he took a reall interest which was nice. We then were asked for our order by a waitress you was very polite, chatty and funny. We then left to relax untill called through to the restaurant when our meal was ready.
The restaurant was very elegant with glass tables and candles, the temperature was just right as well. The meal was served excellently by the waitress and each course was checked back. The food was absolutely amazing. My girlfriend has sweet and sour pork which i tasted. The pork melted in your mouth and the flavours complimented it really well, all in balance and the textures were good as well with some crispy skin that also melted after the intitial cruch. My scallops with cauliflower and raisins was to die for. Just excellent. Main courses were lamb which is my girlfriends favourite, she thought the rhubarb and apple garnish was strange to start with but it worked very well and was very surprised. My Coq au vin was excellent. The chicken was really succulent and looked really good on the large slate with a deconstructive element to the dish. I thought that the slates were maybe slightly too big if there was four people on the table, however the dishes did look really good on them.
We weren left to complete our meal with no one hovering and being over atentive but if we had of needed anything if would been very easy to attract help. A sign of good waiting staff.
For desert I pursuaded my girlfriend to have a desert as it was a special occassion, plus I didnt want to eat alone. She had a cherry melba which she was very impressed with and was glad I pursuaded her to have one. I had the white chocolate rice pudding with raspberry. I love rice pudding and white chocolate but thought it might be a bit sickly together. I was wrong. There was just a hint of white chocolate which complemented the rice pudding perfectly. Coffe was offered but we dedlined. There was no rush to be leave either. We were left to enjoy the rest of the drinks. No one wanted to push us out even though we one of the last in the restaurant. We asked for bill and it was promptly brought. We paid at reception and left. All the staff were very good at theirs jobs.
Overall, the experience, food, service and restaurant was top knotch. Definately reccommend to anyone. Yes you pay a bit more than the average restaurant but it is worth so much more. Easily worth the 2 rosette accolade Richard has received.
We went for a relaxed romantic meal and that is what we got. Excellent evening and will be returning soon
