“Great Location, not so great Hotel”
Reviewed October 15, 2010

Tired and old, are the words that come to mind. Location for Port Sunlight could not have been better. But the hotel needs a good update and clean. It seems very popular for locals for a night out, but there does not seem to be much choice around. Food is Little Chef or Berni inn. Nothing wrong with it but it's not in anyway posh. Look when it comes down to it its personal choice but I would always choose no fly collection in my light fittings.

For a visit to Liverpool I gave up looking for somewhere to stay with good reviews so settled on the Bridge Inn. The room was very clean (apart from the dust behind the TV), spacious and well equipped. The building is very old and quaint so I wouldn't expect everything to be perfect, e.g. the windows are obviously original but perfectly functional. The room we had was above the restaurant so not suitable for an afternoon nap due to the music. The restaurant closes quite early though. We had a couple of nice meals there; standard pub fare.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The bonus being that it is in the very pretty Port Sunlight village, with the Lever Art Gallery within walking distance.

I booked the hotel via the internet as I was attending a family wedding and we'd been unable to book a room at the hotel the wedding function was being held at. I phoned ahead to ask if we could have an early check in as the wedding and the check in times were the same and we'd want to change before going to the wedding rather than travelling 90 miles in our outfits. The gentleman I spoke to was very helpful and agreed to us arriving around 11.30am (check in was 2pm).On arriving the waitress from the eating area checked us in and showed us to our room, gave me the key and left. She was very pleasant and even offered to help us with our bags. Everything was fine until we asked if the sofa converted into a bed or had we been given the wrong room as we were 2 adults and 2 children and there was only 2 beds a double and a single.
My husband went to reception to ask but nobody was there so he left a message and returned to the room. Again the young girl who showed us to our room came up and explained that the bed pulled out from the sofa and apologised for not explaining earlier.I thanked her and shut the door. We then heard a booming voice through our room door from someone who I presume was the landlady saying that we would have been given something else except for the fact that we'd put her to so much trouble having an early check in! I opened the room door again and she looked quite embarressed so it was obviously not meant for me to hear!
The following morning we headed for breakfast and were seated by the same lady. We ordered the buffet for the children and full English for ourselves. The food wasn't pleasant. The milk was turning making the cereal tase funny so the children wouldn't eat it, the sausages were heavily spiced, the bacon dry and the eggs overcooked. The area was musty and damp smelling the fire door was open and we'd been seated next to this but moved as the children were cold. Overall not a pleasant experience.
On checking out the landlady completed the transaction whilst training a member of the team. She didn't explain this was what she was doing in fact until I put my card into the machine to enter my pin she hardly noticed I was there! We won't be going again. It's a shame as there are some really good junior staff there who know how hospitality should be.

We had read about the annual Port Sunlight Festival in our local Liverpool Echo, and as we are smitten with the village, we decided to go and make a day (and night) of it. We had been to the Bridge Inn before for drinks, so decided to book a night out there, after a long days entertainment at the festival.
First of all, let me praise the staff, and especially the owners, who were very friendly and catered for all of our needs. We had an evening meal and breakfast at the hotel. The meals were good plain food, well cooked and served to our liking. Okay they are never going to get Cordon Bleu ratings, but they were wholesome and delicious. The cost of the food was very reasonable, and great value for money.
The bar stocks several cask ales, as well as a good selection of wines and spirits.
The room that we had was large and spacious, with the normal tea & coffee set up. There was a digital TV with Freeview service and a working remote handset. The bedroom and bathroom were clean, with plenty of towels, linen and pillows.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to our friends. We expect to spend more weekends in Port Sunlight, and will most certainly be staying at the Bridge Inn.

we had 2 lovely rooms-same decor in both and they were clean fresh and roomy. Staff were welcoming and friendly and helpful. The evening meal let them down.We had an excellent day in Liverpool-left our car at the hotel and walked to the railway station just up the road. We bought a day saver ticket which allowed us on the trains and ferry at very good value. The train took us right into the city centre and they run every 15 mins to about 11.30 at night. We got the last ferry back at 6.00 and did the whole 'ferry across the mersey ' hoping to get back to the hotel for a wash and brush up and a relaxing evening meal. The last orders were 8.30 so were rushed to get ready. When the food came it was microwaved pie, gravy was coloured water and my partner had the fattiest gammon steak he had ever had. But 4 of us ate for £32 and that included the drinks--so we got what we paid for. I would definately stay in this beautiful village again but eat in Liverpool before I got a later train back.

Just came back from a 2 nigh stay at the Bridge Inn. We were attending a family anniversary party on the Wirral and after much searching we decided on the Bridge Inn. This proved to be an inspired choice and much better value that other holes in the area. The Bridge Inn is peacefully situated and only a short walk to the metro which whisks you over to L'Pool in about 15 mins. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable and the rooms are spacious.

All in all a great choice.

The Bridge Inn is a large and traditional styled Inn, with separate bar, restaurant and upstairs hotel accommodation. We choose it as an alternative to Liverpool city centre and as the football had taken up most of the mid-range rooms, we decided to travel slightly further afield. In fact, it's very accessable to Liverpool, with Port Sunlight railway station only 5 minute walk away - trains to central Liverpool are every 15 mins and take 20 mins. The village of Port Sunlight is beautiful and immaculate, being set up and designed by Lord Lever. The room accommodation was larger than standard with average-good cleaniliness. The owners are fantastic and will do their best to make sure you have a good stay, offer advice about getting around, attractions and the history of the Inn; they have even gone to the effort, at their own cost, of refurbishing the cellar and servants quarters to its original (if not eerrie - ask Maria about that!) state. Food was good and bar drinks are both priced reasonable price with a decent closing time (11.30 for a Sat.). Overall a good and friendly stay, hearwarmingly reccommended.
