“What a Delight”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

This is an outstanding place to stay. We arrived quite late in the evening but were still welcomed straight away by a friendly and efficient person who gave is all the information we required without any prompting from us.

The room was warm, comfortable, clean and well provided with everything a weary traveller may want. The beds were soft, squishy and extremely comfortable. We slept late!

Breakfast was LARGE with plenty of choice, both cooked and cold, and very tasty. We didn't eat again all day. All served by a very pleasant person who thought of everything before we asked, including a third coffee!!

We will be back....

Room Tip: Try this hotel if your in the area.

We stayed for two nights and the overall experience was good - very comfortable bed, good shower over bath and a clean room of more than adequate size. The Inn itself is full of character, and a good range of beers is served. Old English Inns try very hard to promote a wide ranging menu, but the result is that not everything is always available, and some of the potential quality is lost. This was certainly the case with our Sunday roast beef, which was very poor. The bill was adjusted to account for our disappointment, but the question marks had been raised. Breakfasts are a strength, and the range of options is commendable for the price per room. In the end £160 for two nights Dinner, Bed and Breakfast is hard to beat, and is excellent value for money in a nice country location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear, to avoid early morning traffic noise.

We booked here largely because of good reviews in Tripadvisor. We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay!

The Inn is lovely: large rooms, plenty of age and history - together with old paved floors & wonky beams and the ambience & welcome are very evident. We had a really good dinner and a grand breakfast...both well-served and very good value.

Beers are beautifully kept and I was in heaven with Abbots and Greene King both on tap. Muted music, warmth and friendliness from the young staff.

Our accommodation was in the separate 'annexe' just a few yards from the Inn. The ample car parking meant that we parked close to our room (helpful in the pouring rain) and it proved to be quite spacious, with a generous bath & shower, fair wardrobe space and a very comfortable double bed.

My only gripe came with the dim lighting - inadequate for reading the paper, let alone my book. The TV came in as a handy alternative. We left with regret and pleasant memories.

Room Tip: We had room 1...near the double doors but away from the road.

We have stayed before and were lucky to get the same room number 10.
Spotlessly clean and so very warm and beds so comfortable
They welcome dogs no charge & wifi works well
Nice evening meal with very good breakfast.& nice happy girl on duty
Couple of minor points a better bell at reception and would have liked the log fires to be going but it was still warm inside.
Will be booking again

Room Tip: number 10 is outside in a block of 3 not a lot of noise from road loads of room and at least 3 radia...

Thank you so much for leaving your review and for your useful comments.

We are now looking into an electronic reception bell so we can reduce the waiting time for our guests at reception.

Unfortunately we were not able to light our fires until they had been swept, which has now been done, so hopefully if you return this season they will be ready and waiting for you!

Thank you for staying with us again and we hope to see you in the near future!

We live in the Cotswold and often have visitors from overseas come visit so like to take them for some "good old English grub" ..in an oldee worldy pub. It's always a good sign when your guests enjoy the ambiance, and quality of good. I'll be happy to take my future visitors back there again. Try the lamb shanks...if you like juicy and succulent meats, served with mash and peas. mmmmm

We had two nights here to attend a wedding. I can't understand why all the negative reports! it must be people expecting 4 or 5 star hotel facilities because if you go and bear in mind this is a pub with accomodation, you won't be dissapointed. Rooms are comfortable and cleaned to an acceptable standard. The pub is lovely serving great beers and good pub food the service was good enough to warrant a tip. Again bear in mind it's a pub so don't so do not expect michelin star standards as some folk writing reviews have.

I had made my reservation from France through Brittany Ferries. After reading some comments on this site, I didn't quite know what to expect, for some people had expressed deep discontent. So I was pleasantly surprised by the service in the restaurant, the good food and a lovely bedroom. The place is very friendly, with different rooms where you can sit, the last one, facing the garden, being in my opinion the most pleasant. So thanks a lot to the nice people at Hunter's Hall Inn.
