We called in to the Dog & Duck on spec' and as expected it was full. The Manageress found our party of four a table and we perused the menus, even though we knew them quite well. I had Tiger prawns for a starter, served as kebabs with crispy fresh vegetable garnish. Our mains were just as good, I had a rib eye which was more tender than most fillets (and much sweeter, you can't beat a nice rib-eye) with heaps of chips and a delicious Diane sauce which the Head chef Nick is well known for. My wife's duck was pronounced perfect and served just as you expect - pink. The mixed grill was enormous and excellent value.
Despite huge portions we managed deserts - a treacle sponge came served in an empty Lyles Golden Syrup can and the tiramisu was very well presented in a glass cup and saucer. A couple of bottles of Malbec wine and some San Miguel washed it all down and for £156 for four was good value. The menu we knew well, nothing new and none of it was pretentious. Just good portions and every item just perfect. This was FAR better than pub food and we shall definitely be back. Hopefully soon!
