Desperate to find somewhere to have lunch this Easter Monday we drove into Howden and asked if food was being served today. We were greeted with a smile and given a menu. The dining area was very pleasant and the food and beer were great. There was also a very good beer garden. We won’t hesitate to visit again whenever we’re in the area.

We thought we would go for a drive out for lunch and ended up in Howden. We went to the Wellington to eat and what a lovely pub , it was like going back in time just as we like it. The hosts were very nice and bonus is we could take our dog in as well. Really good food served piping hot with real ale to drink perfect. As we don't live near Howden we are thinking of staying at the Wellington so we can have an evening meal and a few beers. The Brewery won't allow dogs to stay in the rooms which is the only downside but overall a cracking place to chill out over a meal with friends.

Room tip: As we didn't stay we couldn't comment on the rooms only to say the hosts are starting to refurbish the rooms.

Have been using this pub for many years but since the new people moved in never again. They are unwelcoming, rude, offensive. People are talking with their feet and going elsewhere and there is no wonder. Not sure about kitchen hygiene as the man has had the same jumper on since he arrived. They have sacked good staff and I am afraid have started the going down of the welly. What a shame for a historic institution.

Had lunch on the 1st day the new tenants took over, hence did not expect THE MOST MAGNIFICENT PLATE OF PUB FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD, costing only £8.95! Tender & succulent steak & gravy topped with feather light pastry with gorgeous veg & chips. Very friendly service as well....

Popped in during a short visit to howden and had a drink, beer and a wine
Staff were not very welcoming and constantly chewing gum not very professional
Thought about a Sunday carvery (albeit it wasn't a carvery as advertised on the website)
but the place was empty so just settled for a drink
Having watched a few diners arriving around 1pm we're pleased we didn't bother with the waitress constantly playing with her very long hair (Sure hygiene states long hair should be tied back)
Drink was fine and the right price but we left with no acknowledgement from any of the members of staff
Shan't be going back
