I had heard a lot about this place (especially the Yorkshire Tapas) through the AA books and decided to give it a go and booked in for lunch when visiting Howden. Unfortunately I was advised that the Tapas would not be on until a lot later that afternoon (after 3pm) and so had to make do with the carvery (£7.50 per head). As carverys go the quality of the food was good, but it was a shame that you could not help yourself to vegetables (and so had to be served it). You could have all three meats on offer and all three were very good (beef, pork and turkey). There is a wide selection of drinks and real ales on offer that helped the bar scene. A good place, but nothing to make it stand out. Possibly if I had been there later for the tapas then it may have...

What a find, well to be honest it was thanks to my little sister who live nearby. A proper 'country pub but with a gastro-pub selection.
Excellent greeting and warm invitation to eat, not bad for a Sunday afternoon at 4.30. Surprisingly busy and very obvious that most of the customers were either local or had dined here before. Always a good sign in my experience.
Excellent menu, good wine list and a unique Ice Cream selection. Flavours included Pontefract Cake, Yorkshire Mixture and Mascapone.
Will have to find an opportunity to visit again.

Always enjoy eating at the Kings Head and this time was no exception.

Starter was green lipped mussels on a bed of fish cakes mussels a shade tiny but cooked to perfection.

Mains was brisket of beef on a bed of horseradish mashed potato excellent.

Friendly service as always.

Cannot wait to go again

Arrived for Sunday lunch without a booking not realising how busy the pub would be. Got the last table in the bar and enjoyed a really good quality Sunday lunch served by the chef from the carvery. Choice of 3 meats and excellent selection of quality vegetables cooked just right. Overall, really tasty food.

Shared a dessert which was well presented and very tasty. Too big a portion for one person after the carvery!

Will definitely visit again and would happily take friends.

A brilliant pub, quite rural, and a magnet for diners for miles around. It has a really good atmosphere, and is popular with all age groups. It’s a great example of how traditional UK pubs have needed to transform themselves from beer and crisps to a full restaurant offering, real ales, good wine list, and events. Price, food, service, all good. Highly recommended.
