“Traditional coaching house with all mod cons - lovely breakfast!”
Reviewed April 1, 2012

Set about three miles from Galloway Activity Centre and backs onto Loch Ken. Owners very friendly if a little quiet. Rooms vary (a group of us stayed) but all are nicely styled like you'd expect a country hotel to be. Modern bathrooms but some are very small. Breakfast was lovely. All very tasty, fresh produce. Really nice sausages, haggis and salty bacon served with potato cake, pancake and the usual trimmings. Good selection of cereals and fresh fruit. I would recommend this hotel. Only problem would be that if you wanted to eat out somewhere else in the evening, the closest taxi firms are about 18 miles away so expect to pay through the nose !!!!

Although we have only enjoyed meals here we are quite discerning people and feel that this hotel offers some of the best food for its price anywhere .Also the staff are very friendly and no request is too much trouble.
We hope to make many more visits whenever possible

I've stayed here a few times and the hotel is my first choice when I am on business in the area. The rooms are fairly basic, but are clean, tidy and well maintained.

The restaurant is excellent and has a wide variety of food on offer, and an intersting specials board. The bar is next door to the restaurant and has a real fire which is very comfortable in the winter.

The surrounding area is very attractive, as is the garden next to the bridge and river.

Room Tip: The rooms looking over the river have the best views.

I have stopped here a few times over the past five years so it's about time I provided my review!
I think this is a great little place, it's simple but it's welcoming and offers a great place to relax.
You check in at the bar, which I love, puts you in just the right mood and encourages a chat with the owners.
The bedrooms are all of a simple B&B style but offer just what you need including TV and tea making and justify the price.
However for me saying here is all about the rest of the hotel. The simple slate floored bar with wooden church style benches, the real ales always on offer, the nice food in the restaurant, the friendly owners and staff.
If the weather is good you can sit outside on the banks of the River Ken with a drink.

Breakfast offers a good selection of hot and cold options.

Room Tip: There are a few more spacious rooms at the front of the hotel.

I have stayed here a few times now. The hospitality provided by the owners and staff is fantastic at this country hotel. The food in the restaurant is great. The rooms are clean, but fairly basic and some could do with being completely revamped. It hasn't put me off returning though.

The location is great for hill walking, mountain biking and hunting.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for ensuite as some rooms are not!

Thank you for your review, we are glad that you enjoy staying with us.
We are getting lots of compliments for our hospitality, food, bar and accommodation, etc.
We are dissappointed that you feel that the bedrooms are a bit basic. The bedrooms have been designed to be clean, fresh and in keeping with the original coaching inn style of the period. To this end we have used Edwardian patterned wallpaper and we are renewing the bedroom furniture in all the rooms with a traditional dark wood instead of the existing farmhouse style pine. We would appreciate if you could modify your comment on ROOM TIP though, as it is not the case that "some of the rooms are not ensuite", as you have suggested and we are receiving phone calls and emails from concerned guests checking to ensure that they have an en suite room. We have 10 ensuite, double, twin and family bedrooms. We have one single standard room which has its own private facilities and which is offered to individuals only when no ensuite is available. We would never place any person in this room without prior permission.

Best wishes

Dave & Sue

We passed the Ken Bridge Hotel in 2008 and remembered the lovely looks and lay-out by the river. This time we stopped to stay for a night on our way west. As we were recieved so kindly, we decided to stay for 2 nights and enjoy the surroundings of New Galloway a bit. Yes, we'll be back and stay a little longer.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river Ken

Had a three night stay at this hotel and it was just a delight. The owners and all the staff we met could not have been nicer and provided excellent service. The location of the hotel is simply idyllic with the bridge and Ken Water right on the doorstep. We were very lucky with weather which made the beer garden very inviting in the afternoons after our walks. We also had dinner in the hotel , the menu was very good and good value. All in all. a little gem.
