“Warm welcome, excellent accommodation and lovely breakfast”
Reviewed July 8, 2011

The welcome was genuine and warm - greeted with with tea, scones and shortbread on arrival. My bike was wheeled indoors and stayed secure throughout. A good hot bath with plenty of water in a warm room relaxed tired muscles. Drying facilities dealt with my wet clothes. A helpful phone call to the nearest hotel (about one mile distant - in England) ensured that I was well looked after for supper (excellent home made tomato soup but generally medium priced well cooked food and wine). A comfortable bed and a great breakfast with a choice of full Engllsh / Scottish or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and coffee made my short stay refreshing and cheerful - just the thing after a long run down from Ochiltree the previous day in the rain.

Room Tip: Orange phone reception is patchy but just about workable from this part of the world.

We wanted a quiet place to stay and use as a base to travel around Scotland and were not disappointed. Stuart and Joanne are excellent hosts and really know the area. We had a lovely time at Northlodge - the room was spacious and very comfortable, there is excellent off-road parking and breakfast was a feast! We had a couple of rainy days but Stuart did not let that put us off with lots of tips on where to go and what to see - I have to say we were so comfortable that I wouldn't have been to disappointed if we couldn't go out! We had a great time and will be visiting again late summer/early autumn.

Room Tip: Have a look at the Cabin!

We have stayed here many times over the years, we have always been made very welcome with a nice cup of tea and treats on arrival. the rooms are always clean and comfortable and breakfast is delicious. This time the jewel in the crown was the new cabin overlooking the pond, we can only describe it as idyllic, fitted out to Joanne and Stuart' s usual high standard. The location, near to, but well off the A7 between Langholm and Carlisle makes it ideal for touring the Borders or, as we do, an ideal stop-off travelling to and from the Highland or Islands.

Room Tip: Ask for the cabin but all are rooms are good !

Found this accommodation by chance and it turned out to be a treasure. The lodge was really clean and comfortable. Ideal after a long day sightseeing or walking in the beautiful surroundings. The owners where warm and welcoming but not intrusive. They gave us plenty of assistance when we asked for local insight but seemed to intuitively know when we wanted the space you get with a hotel.
The lodge is situated in a peaceful part of the village. There's a lovely sheltered seating area overlooking a large pond which is really private and relaxed. We enjoyed a sunset glass of wine here whilst watching the wildlife buzz around the pond.
There's also sheltered parking for motorcycles and a great full breakfast in the morning.
North Lodge would be our first choice for future visits. All the bonus features of a small hotel at the price of a B & B.
