My other half found The Weary Ploughman whilst surfing the internet, he had asked me where did I want to go for the weekend and I had replied Dartmouth. I wasn't told where we were going, until a couple of days before. I will be honest, I was a bit miffed that he had decided to book The Weary Ploughman because I had wanted to be actually in Dartmouth. I am so glad he had, we had a brilliant stay. We were lucky enough to be in room 4 - which has a superking size bed - the mattress is soooo comfortable, if we could have folded it up and put it into the back of the car, we would have done! The place is spotless when it comes down to cleanliness. Service is attentive and efficient, with the food being excellent, we could not fault our dinner, both of us choosing fish for both our starter and main course, my main course of Hake was delicious, I didn't want the meal to end. Breakfast was great, with plenty to choose from. We will be back.

Room Tip: It is worth paying that little bit extra for the super king!

Thank you "MicksGirlfriend" for writing your very complementary review on The Weary Ploughman Inn. We all really appreciate your kind comments and are so pleased you decided to stay with us rather than in Dartmouth. Dartmouth isn't very far away is it if you drive down to Kingswear and cross the river by ferry - when the steam trains run (from Feb to Oct) you can travel down to Kingswear by train which makes a lovely trip, and then cross the river on the passenger ferry.

The bed you would have liked to take home is fairly new as we had all new Hypnos beds in the rooms last July which are proving to be very much appreciated by our guests.

Thank you once again for taking the trouble to write your nice review.

We booked one nights accommodation for New Years Eve 2012. We were so impressed with the friendly and welcoming staff who were Simon, Jodie, Emma and Will (top chef) and of course the delightful owners, Mike and Steph. The room was cosy, very comfortable and extremely clean. The restaurant atmosphere was warm and inviting and the food was delicious! We had an amazing night and hope to return for their murder mystery evening in the next few months to experience it all again! Highly recommend :)

Thank you "422paular" for your very kind comments about your stay with us over New Year. We all do appreciate you taking the time to write your complementary review. We all aim to give our guests an enjoyable experience and it is so nice to read that we have managed to do just that.

We haven't yet booked another Murder Mystery evening with "The Candlelight Theatre Company" but details will be on our website - wearyploughman.co.uk - when we do, possibly in May.

We visited this hotel during our trip home from New Year celebrations, so we had already had more than enough food and drink over the festive period,(and so likely to be harder to please than normal) however this small hotel was excellent, the welcome was warm, we were shown to our room, given dinner menu to take with us and peruse whilst we relaxed.
The room facilities were top notch, clean and modern, with free wi-fi connection. A large comfortable bed and no skimping on tea and coffee making supplies.
We ate in the Restaurant and the food was of a high standard, with a wide choice. The restaurant/bar staff were welcoming, engaging and professional and happy to join in conversation, as we sat at the bar for drinks.
Mike, the owner was very visible asking us if everything was ok on several occassions. Breakfast and check out was all we required and courteous - all in all this comes highly recommended. Thanks to all the staff who helped make our stay memorable.

Room Tip: If wanting to check in before 5.30pm, I would recommend contacting the hotel in advance, it is not open in the afternoons when the bar and restaurant closes. I would expect Mike would try to help as nothing seems too much trouble!

Thank you "travelhunter54" for taking the time to write your complementary review of The Weary Ploughman Inn, it was very much appreciated by all of us. . Our aim is to give all our customers and overnight guests an excellent experience and we are so pleased to know that you enjoyed your stay with us. In the restaurant we serve freshly, home-cooked food which is sourced as locally as possible - on Sundays our beef comes from a herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle that graze two fields away.
We had all new Hypnos beds in our bedrooms last Summer and our housekeeping staff take pride in keeping the rooms in a tip top state.
Thank you once again for your kind comments.

I originally booked this for a couple of nights stay with friends after reading reviews on tripadvisor. I was a bit anxious when we arrived because from the outside it didn't really appeal. However, other reviewers had said that you shouldn't be put off by the outside appearance. I'm glad we followed their advice as the rooms are very nice (and very clean), the food is very good, as is the service. As noted by other reviewers, nothing is to much trouble. This family run business is a great little find. We have now stayed a couple of times and our friends have been back several times and have taken their friends too! Since our first visit, the exterior has undergone a "paint job" and looks much better. Due to it's location on a busy road, light sleepers may be disturbed by early morning traffic. If you stay here I wouldn't bother trying to find anywhere else to eat, there's really no point!

Thank you "LFOak" for your very kind comments about The Weary Ploughman. We all appreciate you taking the time to write a review and are pleased to know that your stay with us was enjoyable.
Thank you for your comments about our 'paint job' - we did hope it would brighten up the outside.

The Weary Ploughman was built in the 1800s as "The Railway Hotel" for the neighbouring Churston Station (which, as you know is now used by our local Steam Railway company) and so the main facade and entrance was built on the side opposite to the station - which places the building sideways on to the main road.

Once again thank you for your kind review. We look forward to seeing you in 2013.

My wife and I have just returned from a long weekend at the Weary Ploughman, and have to say that we are not the easiest people to please having been involved at a high level for many years in the hospitality business. Everything was done with the utmost efficiency and the customer service was above reproach. The food was excellent too and the Housekeeper kept the rooms immaculately. A special thanks must go to Claire and Simon who dealt with a very busy dining room and bar and were always so polite and charming to us . I would just like to say to Michael that we have stayed at a good many 4 and 5 star establishments and the Weary Ploughman measures up to many of these.
