Description: The restaurant, bar and rooms at the Weary Ploughman at Churston has been extensively refurbished to a very high standard during the last two years to provide somewhere to eat, meet or stay that is very welcoming and comfortable, but not in any way pretentious. Our menu is varied and freshly cooked using, whenever possible, produce sourced locally.

“very good food and friendly staff”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

Came for an evening meal with friends yesterday. We live locally but handn't eaten here for several years, when our experience was no more than 'average'. However, we had heard good reports recently and decided to give it another try. Glad we did, really good food and excellent environment. My only minor criticism is that one of our starters was not the dish ordered but it was quickly changed with an apology.

We shall certainly be returning whenever we want a special occasion for a price that gives good value for money. Congratulations to the team for giving us an experience that was both enjoyable and memorable. See you soon.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your kind review of our restaurant, we are pleased you decided to visit us with your friends. We hope you won't leave it too long before coming again and perhaps taking the opportunity to apply for one of our VIP (Very Important Ploughman) cards which will enable you to take advantage of price reductions and birthday offers, etc.
If you don't want to eat a full blown meal, why not try one of our delicious home-made pizzas made on a very thin base with fresh tasty toppings. We do source the ingredients for our meals as locally as possible. We all do try hard to give our restaurant customers, and our over-night guests, an enjoyable experience when they visit The Weary Ploughman Inn and we do really appreciate your complimentary comments.

“Good food, wide choice, fairly priced”
Reviewed November 30, 2013

Chose this venue for a party booking (13 of us) for several reasons - it's easy to find, has plenty of on-site parking, had a wide choice for all tastes and pockets (very important just before Christmas!), nice roomy layout and good décor, and one of the best set of veggie options alongside meat and fish options I've seen ..... ever!
The place looked warm and welcoming last night, with very tasteful Christmas decs. The staff were friendly and helpful, service was very good, but they also gave us space which we appreciated.
We'd pre-ordered a fairly wide range of things off the menu and it was all delivered together, very well presented and piping hot. For once, our usually lively work group was quiet, for a while...Curiosity got the better of us and we tried mouthfuls of each others - all were delicious and true to the menu descriptions. Personally, not normally a pizza lover, I'd been intrigued by the Whole Hog Pizza - pulled pork, apple sauce, black pudding and crackling on a very thin, crisp, TASTY base - sounds weird? Tastes absolutely fabulous - and I'd definitely have it again! Triple cooked chips (someone elses!) were delicious - crispy outside, light and fluffy inside - although, for me, looked a little anaemic! Whatever - the only minor criticism really. We shared starters and puds (main meal portions are generous!) and thoroughly enjoyed it all - I don't think I've ever seen every single plate appearing to be licked clean before! Well done - and thank you - Weary Ploughman!

“Enjoyable Family Restaurant”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

We regularly visit the Weary Ploughman as it's within walking distance of our holiday home. There is a warm welcome from the friendly staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. There is a large choice of dishes - in fact, it's a little confusing because in fact it's about three separate menus including specials of the day (I do think they should rationalise their menus into one menu with only specials of the day separate). There is always a 'pie of the day', which might be fish or meat. Local mussels and local fish from nearby Brixham are served. The food is good quality and fresh, vegetables are cooked al dente where appropriate, seasonings and sauces make the food tasty and portions are generous. There are standard dishes such as fish and chips and steaks, but also some imaginative dishes, especially for starters, such as scallops with black pudding (very tasty). Everything is very nicely served, with plenty of visual appeal. We went with friends who are quite fussy, one only eats fish and vegetarian food and only healthy types of dishes, and another of this group is totally vegetarian. None of the varied starters appealed to these two, but the Ploughman staff happily agreed to a variation on one of the starters to suit them. Service is prompt but relaxed. Good value and always a pleasant evening out. The accommodation is nicely decorated, light and bright.

“Good Food served in a Welcoming Atmosphere”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

This an unremarkable building seen from the road and located right next to the steam railway station; however, inside is attractively decorated and very comfortable. Sunday lunch is served to your table rather than 'carvery style'. The staff are friendly and unhurried. Food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Our second visit and we shall return. Plenty of parking.

Thank you very much indeed for your complimentary review following your visit to our restaurant for Sunday lunch. Thank you also for awarding us 5 points. We all work hard to give our customers, and over-night guests, an enjoyable experience and are delighted to read your kind comments.
We have just started serving gourmet, stone-baked, home-made pizzas - having installed a pizza oven from Italy - and hope our customers will find them as delicious as we do!
Our big Christmas tree will be going up outside at the end of this month, and our restaurant will be beautifully decorated for Christmas on the 26th November.
