A beautiful building in a fantastic setting quite spoiled by a trashy monstrosity in the lake. How could the National Trust stoop so low?

We had been put off visitng National Trust properties for several years; standing behind the rope, pompous, over-zealous volunteers and museum like buildings had taken their toll.

However, we were delighted with our recent visit to Lyme Park. The staff were friendly, as were the spaces. No more standing behind ropes, and being barked at not to touch anything.

We were allowed to move freely around the spaces, there were places to sit and objects to touch. There are period costumes for the whole family to borrow and wear as they move around the house and gardens.

Overall, a wonderful day out. Coffee and cake in the restaurant a minor let down, but 99% happy experience.

The gardens are beautifully set out and if you had good weather would be lovely to wander about, unfortunately we had a terrible foggy, rainy day.
So spent most of our time in the house which is quite interesting but very dark, it's not a house I would want to visit again.

I have always wanted to visit Lyme Park and my trip exceeded all my expectations. The gorgeous weather made the day better, but the gardens are beautiful and there is so much to see and places to walk to.

Only made a fleeting visit but the house is lovely, and the grounds, gardens, and orangery are fabulous.
