Well, there are hundreds of different walks. Beautiful countryside, with some great views of Stockport, Cheshire and Manchester.
For kids, there is Crow's nest Wood play area. It is all made of natural materials, and fantastic play experience. Not your regular playgroud at all. Well maintained too.
The Hall is where Pride and Prejudice was filmed. Lots of history, with a childs' room that kids CAN still play in on their visit.
Two gift shops, a cafe, plenty of loo's and a restaurant.
Parking is free if you are a national trust member, otherwise, it's £5. Definitely worth a day out, or afternoon out. Good for kids or couples

We arrived late so we didn't get to go inside the house but we were very happy with just seeing the beautiful grounds and retracing the steps of Mr Darcy and Elizabeth. This place is a must for all P&P fans and even if you haven't watched the series you'll still the love seeing the historic house and grounds. We didn't pay to get into the grounds but there is a fee for the house and other areas.

Visited purely to enjoy a walk. There are leaflets available from the carpark ticket office detailing 4 walks - a 30 minute stroll, a 60 minute walk, and 2 x 90 minute walks. All are within the grounds of the property on well trodden routes. Although many people were equipped for 'proper' walking, we did fine in warm clothes and wellies. Some of the routes will be suitable for more rugged pushchairs, but I imagine wheelchairs would struggle.

We took the longer route today, and were rewarded with beautiful views over Stockport into Manchester, passed through pastures full of deer, crossed a few streams and wandered through woods. Despite remaining within the grounds of the property it almost felt like genuine countryside walking, without the need for careful journey planning.

At the end of the walk you can settle down to a warm drink and a cake, or a more substantial meal, but be warned the queues can be large on popular days and there isn't sufficient seating. Many braved the outdoor tables but it proved too cold for us!
