fantastic walks and things to look at gud views all round
Spent a wonderful day at Lyme Park. This is where they did the outside 'shots' for Pride and Prejudice. The version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Eyle (is that how you spell it?). The inside of Lyme Park (Pemberley!) aren't the same as the Pride and Prejudice movie as the inside shots were done at Sunbury House, I believe, but, nevertheless enchanting. But the grounds did it for me. Could imagine being on the set of Pride and Prejudice whilst there! Silly moo! Lovely day out though. One of the best stately homes I've ever been to.
If you havent been to Lyme Park, let me try and explain why you should go?
As a single person, great walking, great views, plenty to see, great hall to walk round and a choice of places to eat and drink.
As a family, great walking, adventure playground for chidren with some of the best climbing and adventure areas. Lots of open land to wander round and play in.
Things worth considering.
Join the National trust, we did, and we have saved a lot of money, the park, house and gardens are then free in any other NT property.
If you want to walk there are plenty of free maps with suggested walks at the information centre. Walks range from 1 mile to about 5 or 6 miles. None are realy hard work, and most can be completed in 3 hours at the most.
The cafe is good, near the gift shop, a little expensive but not a bad choice. The restaurant is good too, but again not cheap. Take a picnic or a bag of your own butties.
Look out for some special events, the recent Beatrix Potter display was fab, characters dressed in costume, stories read for young children etc.
Very family orientated attraction.
We loved visiting Lyme Park. We found it to be best value for us to join the National trust and it paid off for us during our three week tour of England. Lyme Park was certainly my most anticipated and it did not disappoint. The inside of the house was ornate and interesting. We especially loved the walk around for the most famous views. Also enjoyed the carvings of arms holding flags sticking out of the ceiling. Definitely worth a visit!
