Stayed just one night, but were impressed. It's a lovely spot and the hotel owners work hard to make guests comfortable and welcome. The room was well equipped and serviced, the bed being v large and comfortable. The view from our room was incomparable!

Room Tip: Room 5 had a stunning view!

We arrived on a very cold, windy wet, spring evening in need of some nourishment and a drink. The exterior is dated, but we were warmly greeted and the service we received was excellent. Our meal, soup, fish and chips was exceptionally good. Couldn't see the view due to the mist but imagine it would be stunning on a summer's day. Macduff is a good stop off point for this region. We didn't stay the night in this hotel as we had booked into a B & B, but the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Nothing much to say about this poor attempt at a hotel. Nae ale and what beer came was flat and lines obviously dirty. A little lemon for our Gin and Tonic was long awaited. Our decision to leave and eat elsewhere was quickly decided.

A lovely little spot. The exterior doesn't say much and it's a heck of a climb up the hill but the view over the water was worth every penny. We got a lovely personal experience from the two staff we encountered, and anything that might have been an issue (like a pernicaty shower) had been identified beforehand. Our room was large, everything functioning and reliable, with a beautiful spacious, comfortable bed. With regards to communal areas, the bar was well stocked and very reasonably priced. A beautiful conservatory/lounge is provided. Did I mention the view?

Room Tip: Get one of the upstairs rooms (4 or 5).

Great small five bedroom family run hotel, high on the hillside which overlooks the village of Macduff.
The Knowes Hotel affords splendid views, from the bedrooms and cosy dining room, of the Moray Firth coastline over to Banff and beyond.
Later as I gazed from my compact ensuite single bedroom, on the long June evening that I stayed, I watched as the sun set over the sea and the coastline came alive as darkness descended and the lights of the villages twinkled into the distance on the rugged and spectacular Moray coastline. I slept well that night in the one of the most comfortable single beds I have experienced.
The hospitality and warmth of the staff was only exceeded by the generous Scottish breakfast provided in the morning before I took my leave and continued on my travels.
An honest penny well spent at this establishment which offered very good value in all that was provided. Once found never forgotten, so I will return to this wee gem when next in the area!

This was the resting place for the sixth and seventh nights of our tour. The hotel was set on the hill offering spectecular views. The room at the top (5) was a bit of a hike with the bags but the view was well worth it. As the room is in the attic those of us who are tall need to be a bit wary to avoid bumping our heads. The shower was a bit idiosyncratic but was the best of the tour when it was running. The bed was wide and soft but supportive. The food in the resturant was reasonably priced and tasty. The view from the louge was fab with a magnificant sunset on Saturday and the sight of dolphins on Sunday. A great place to stay with two nights with dinner and drinks costing less than one night with dinner at a hotel earlier in the week.

Room Tip: Try to get room 5 its wort the hike up the stairs for the view

My partner organised a weekend away for my Birthday and after Aberdeen on the first night i had no idea where the second night was to be. On arriving in MacDuff we found ourselves at The Knowes Hotel. We were quickly checked in by the friendly owner (i think) and were allocated Room 2, which whilst not large it was very comfortable and had 2 large windows with superb views looking out to the sea. The weather was great and we opened both windows and sat on the sills and enjoyed the sun with a celebratory bottle of fizz!
We later went down to the bar and were immediately impressed by the friendliness of the staff and after a lovely meal (chicken fillets in batter were immense) we spent a good while chatting to Kerry and Sheila who wad worked at the hotel for a good while. They are such a credit to the Knowes and a good laugh too.
The hotel only has 5 rooms so it was quiet at night and the bed was very comfortable so a good sleep was had. As mentioned in other reviews the shower cubicle was rather small however there was plenty of hot water.
A good breakfast was supplied in the morning and extra tea, coffee and toast was offered twice to us which was a nice touch.
The Knowes Hotel is clean and tidy, yes maybe i little dated in places but it adds to the charm and as mentioned the staff are superb. I do hope we shall return soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with sea view and take a walk up to the war memorial after breakfast for great views.
