“Beautiful hotel in a lovely location”
Reviewed May 5, 2012

Stayed here one night with my husband when we were walking the Pennine Way. Situated on the Pennine Way in the beautiful village alongside the river. It was reached by a stone bridge across a river. We were greeted by a very friendly man who was very helpful. He pointed out the honesty bar in the lounge whilst showing us the way to our room. Our room was lovely and the en-suite very modern. The en-suite had a power shower and the shower cubicle was very big.
Flat Screen TV with lots of channels and excellent reception. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, kettle, hairdryer etc. Free Wifi in bedroom and all areas of hotel.
Very comfortable lounge with real fire. Computer in the corner of lounge for guests to use with free access to internet. Lots of books / information of things to do / walks in the area. We really loved the honesty box bar in the lounge with snacks. The prices of the drinks were very reasonable.
Breakfast was excellent. The bacon was the best we had on the walking holiday. Overall a very enjoyable stay and one of our favourites on the Pennine Way. We would love to return in the future and do more walking in this beautiful area. Would definitely recommend.

We decided to stay in Malham on a spur of the moment, although knew that the cove and surrounding area were beautiful (thanks Harry Potter). Getting there couldn't be simpler - we got the train from Leeds to Gargrave and then used a local private hire taxi service to get to the B&B (Google Gargrave Private Hire and the guys name is Christopher). Christopher gave us a great price and a great introduction to the area, and we would recommend using him to get to Beck Hall to our friends. Beck Hall itself was fantastic. Beautiful old building, reached by a stone bridge across a freshwater stream. We were greeted by a really friendly young lady who showed us the honesty bar (GREAT idea) and our room, the Green Room. The room itself was breathtaking. Really felt like we had gone back to the 17th Century. Lovely soft four poster bed and nice views across the garden. Could hear a nice stream gurgling by and birds chirping. So peaceful. We had a nice time in the village and then a nice evening in the guest lounge, trying some local beers at the honesty bar in front of a roaring fire with the other guests. Breakfast was great - nice local bacon and sausage and other options available too. We walked the Pennine Way back to Gargrave and then home to Leeds. We hope to be back sometime soon.

Room Tip: Green Room is a great room, although it is above the guest lounge so be considerate if there are peo...

We stayed for 2 nights at Beck Hall, The accomodation is great, we had the blue room which is in the oldest part of the house, it was like stepping back in time. The honesty bar is great as able to sit with a glass of wine in front of a roaring fire to end a perfect day. Breakfast was great with really friendly staff. Would definately recommend if you want to get away from it all.

Just returned from an excellent 5 night stay at Beck Hall. We found a great midweek deal on Laterooms.com for £55 per room per night Sun-Thurs.

The place is very olde worlde with low ceilings, steep steps, and low doorways whic all adds to the character.. There is an honesty bar which we did not use but which looked well stocked and you wrote your drinks in a book which were then charged for at the end of your stay. The hotel is in a great location just out of the main village centre of Malham and beside a very nice running stream. Alot of reviews have mentioned a 'rickety bridge' to reach the hotel, but to be honest this is solid and may possibly be a problem only to those unsteady on feet, and in wet weather.

The hotel offers the usual guide books, OS maps and walks leaflets etc all free of charge to borrow from reception, and also offers packed lunches which are really good value for money and quite generously made sandwiches.

Our room was room 14 which was modern, very clean with decent storage space. Had a flat screen tv with plenty of satellite channels.tea and coffee making facilities and a small but spotlessly clean bathroom with a good sized shower.

Ok all the staff are very polite and efficient and nothing is too much trouble. Special mention must go to Patrick who is one of the hardest working people we have ever had the pleasure to meet. This man made our stay perfect, serving us breakfast with a smile and conversation every morning and dinner with the same smile and can-do attitude 12hours later in the Lister Arms local pub in the village centre!! So a genuine thank you for all your service,Patrick.

Malham itself is a lovely Dales village. Very popular at pretty much all times of the year but even more so at weekends, summer and bank holidays when the main car park cannot cope with demand and so parking overspills into nearby fields!. My advice...get there early!! There are 2 pubs,The Buck and The Lister Arms. The latter is easily the best VFM and the best food no contest!. Not impressed with the service or food at The Buck Inn. Also drinks are decidedly cheaper at the Listers Arms. There are plenty of good walks to be had around Malham ranging from 3.5 miles to about 8 miles and for all abilities so get out there and enjoy the countryside!

As this is a genuine honest review I feel I should politely point out just a couple of issues we had with our stay. We had a problem with the heating not working in our room on the 1st night but after speaking to the management this was quickly sorted to our total satisfaction for the rest of our stay. Thank you.

Also the fresh towels which we received daily in our room came damp on 1or 2 occasions but again, a polite word with the housekeeping staff sorted the problem. So thank you again.

Thank you to Patrick and the rest of the staff for an excellent stay at Beck Hall. We were looked after in a friendly professional manner and are already looking to return later in the Autumn.
We would not hesitate to recommend Beck Hall to anyone looking to stay in Malham.

Thank you very much indeed
Graeme and Sandra Lister
