Friendly welcome, roaring fires and the table was ready despite us being early. Flexible menu was great allowing us to have some bread, olives, nuts and sausages to whet our appetites before the main course. Good choice on menu, most of our table had classic Sunday roast and nice touches included extra gravy and excellent roasted root vegetables. Too full for proper puddings but single (large) scoops of delicious local ice-cream at £1.50 a head was great value and just right.

The only very minor criticism is that the toilet facilities need modernising.

A friend from Wales was staying with us and it was her first visit to Yorkshire, so we promised to take her to a real Dales pub for a meal. The Lister Arms was it! I had a good impression immediately as I emailed to book and actually got a reply (some places don't bother!) and when the weather was looking a bit dodgy I emailed again to ask if the roads were ok and got a prompt and helpful reply to that one too.
Despite snow falling lightly, and 5 foot drifts at the sides of the road, we had a fair journey up to Malham and our friend loved the views.
We commented immediately on entering the pub on the warmth and welcoming, cosy atmosphere. There were a fair few people in to say it was a chilly, snowy Wednesday evening, and the staff greeted us warmly and offered us a choice of seats. There was no fire in the dining area so we opted for a rustic wooden table in the bar area, next to the cheery woodburning stove.
There was a good choice on the menu and several Specials on the board. Our friend is vegi and went for the cheese and onion pie from the board, and I chose Moules Marinieres, also a special. Other party members went for the burger and the haddock and chips.
The food was all nicely presented and very tasty. We also had desserts which were equally lovely. Chocolate marquise, yum!
We thought the cost wasn't bad compared with other Dales pubs, and the quality, and setting were excellent. Our waitress, Shona, was particularly friendly and helpful. There were one or two blips with the service; they forgot our olives (though they did apologise for the delay when they came along!) and also our salad and onion rings, but once pointed out these arrived promptly and were really nice.
There was a family with small children at the next table, and Shona brought them colouring activities for the children which was a nice touch I thought.
We will definitely be back at some point: thank you to everyone at the Lister Arms!

The food, welcome and setting of the Lister is magic. Just been taken over by new management who seem really engaged with the pub and village. try the local Pagunum sausages - yum, yum, yum!

Such a short but positive review, thank you. Our new manageress Lisa is a brilliant addition to our team, she has only been here for a few weeks but already got her hands stuck in with ideas on how to make sure everybody still feels relaxed and comfortable during our busy Summer period. We couldn't have asked for a better boss! We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kind regards,
Kirsty McGoogan and all the team at The Lister Arms.

Modern decor but still with a welcoming feel. Plenty of room on a quiet Sunday night in March. I only wanted a simple meal after a hard day on the Pennine Way. Prices a little high but I suspect were about par for a touristy village. I chose the steak and mushroom pie, standard pub fare but nicely presented. Not a huge portion, but pie and nicely cooked vegetables were extremely tasty.
Service was mixed. A friendly welcome and the meal was served promptly. I was undecided whether to have a dessert and coffee or not, but no one checked, so they probably lost a sale.

Nice, clean, value for money. Good real ales on offer. Didn't eat here so cannot comment on food quality. Service was good in bar area.
