“The Restaurant”
Reviewed October 24, 2011

This is about the restaurant part:

Price versus quality was good.
Service was, though a little popular, very friendly and more important very adequate.

This is a small but impecably managed hotel where everthing is of the highest standard. The rooms are imaginitavely fitted out with high quality fittings and decoration. The ajoining bar / restraunt is the centre of the town and appeared to be the hub of local activity. The food here was good well prepared and served to a high standard at a reasonable cost. the hotel does not have its own car park but resonably secure free parking was available at the rear of the hotel. The breakfast at €12.50 appeared expensive at first but everthing here as well was of the highest standard and good value. Popereinge was a base for the British during the 1st world war situated about 10 miles from the front line at Ypres. If you are visiting to tour and explore the 1st world war sites, this is an excellent location to do it from. Wi-fi available and tv with english spoken channels. The majority of people in this area speak perfect english. The owner linda has definitly put her mark on this hotel and to a high standard.

Lovely room with lots of extras, power shower and such luxury - our room overlooked town square which was great for people watching. Whole hotel/restaurant was immaculately clean and attractive; pleasant garden/eating area; shown where to park nearby (free) as we arrived the night before market day when we could not leave car on the square (Thursday night). Linda speaks great English and all the staff were extremely helpful and atmosphere was very easy going and welcoming. Only drawback - you do need to be able to climb stairs and dinner service was a bit slow. To complement this, Poperinge is an extremely friendly, attractive and safe feeling town.

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies; front rooms good for people watching; back rooms will be quieter but all...

We booked 3 nights at this hotel to use as a base to explore the area. Our room was lovely and had access to a huge terrace which was a great spot to relax after a day biking or exploring. We ate at the hotel on the first night and found it to be acceptable but not living up to previous reviews, but the beer list is fantastic! What really lets this place down is the service....we found it to be short, unfriendly and disinterested. The breakfast is NOT included and best avoided as it was so over priced and the quality poor. You would be much better off going elsewhere. The walls are thin and the other guests who stayed were very noisy late into the night which was quite frustrating. Let's hope they can pick up their game as the potential is there!

Using previous reviews we ate and drank at this hotel. It has the widest range of beers in town but their meals were a great disappointment.. One slab of tasteless straight out of the fridge home made pate with frites cost £15! The worse croque monsieur my partner has ever eaten. Our vegetarian eating companion was also complaining about over cold and limp garnishes. .There poor food performance may have been due to the fact they were closing for the week. According to the locals best value food in town is at the Hotel Kring and if you want a gastronomic feast have lunch at the Hotel Recour aka Pegasus

After a long trip from Paris, we were pleasantly surprised to have found this world class hotel. The rooms are updated and very clean, along with personal service, it was a great experience. We arrived late in the evening, although we did not have reservation, we were greeted by friendly staff, who managed to have the chef cook us dinner at midnight. By far the best hotel we stayed, much better than any hotel we’ve stayed in Paris.
