This was my fourth ski holiday over the last 8 years. The first was in Soll, Austria; then Igls, Austria; then Alpe d'huez, France-so we had a good idea of overall quality of ski accom.

In this hotel the room was very comfortable ( for one adult & two children ) though if your party consisted of two adults and two teenage children it'd be best to book two rooms. Cleanliness & hygiene were very impressive.

Our big concern-having read some of these & other reviews-was "food not hot". So having established on evening one that food was only luke-warm I asked the head waiter to sample some of the food. I literally placed cold spaghetti & a cold potato, straight from the buffet, onto his hand. He couldn't but agree food was NOT warm. Every evening thereafter food was very hot, and I must say overall quality & choice was very good.

In terms of overall value, I would rate the hotel & holiday as 'very good'. The total cost for one adult & two children under 12 including flight, transfer, lessons, passes, gear hire ect... came to €2,100.00. A similar deal in the fabulous Alpe d'huez resort in France would cost about €4,400.00.

I'd certainly return to Andorra, probably to Soldeu & El Tarter, as it has a more extensive range of runs. My ski-bible-book rates Arinsal overall as 2/6 in terms of overall cost. Soldeu & El Tarter is rated as 3/6 and we look forward to there for 2007.

Having read the reviews up to Jan 2006 prior to us attending the resort in feb/mar 06 we were more than a little anxious to say the least. Our main concern was with the review of the food as my wife is vegaterian and we were going half board! However we decided to be open minded as we had only paid £640 for two for a week. Upon our arrival at 11pm after a long and boring transfer and spending the first 30 minutes in the hotel we were extremely disappointed to say the least. Basically the bar area is little more than that seen in a youth hostel as it has bright flourescent lighting and very uncomfortable seating which would not look out of place in a cafe (2*). As it was late, a cold buffet had been laid on for us and it was horrible. We went to bed that night feeling depressed! HOWEVER, the following day things looked up. We had a good chance to look around the room which was rear facing with a balcony and was very nice and clean (4*). Then we went down to breakfast with the thought of the previous nights buffet in mind. However the food was fabulous and also very hot! There was a multitude of chice from cakes, full english and cereals and fruit - excellent (4*) We then went boarding and came back for dinner. We tried a different restaurant (there are two to choose from) and again we were impressed. There was a great choice, but you need to ask them to cook the listed vegaterian meal as it is not out on display even though other veggie meals are out on display. However whilst this means a five minute wait, it does mean that it arrives hot. Yes, i had said that dreaded word hot. To be frank the food was never hot. Warm and tasty with lots of variety yes, but not hot. Our tip is get down to the restaurant at 7.30 sharp and dig in as it goes cold very quick. However the funniest thing about the hotel is the waiters. Don't get me wrong they are VERY efficient, however they often take your plate away as soon as you have placed your fork down and you will not even see them do it. It is like having paul daniels working there!! With regards to entertainment - GO OUT. There was one man who dressed in jeans and a old shirt who i saw and thought was a taxi driver. Yet he set up in the youth club bar and sat his mum on a key board and they played all night. If you like Jonny Cash then fill your boots, if you don't then put them on and go out. Up the road about 300 meters on the right is a great little place called EL BOSC. It is a great place to have pizza and drinks and does a faboulous Cappuchino for 1.50 Euro. Oh by the way, the jaccuzi is 6 Euros for 30 minutes each and was only warm. The Sauna was also available and was nice and hot, but i expected these to be free as it a 4 star hotel and i did not use them again. Overall i would grade the hotel as following - Location 3* - room - 4* - food 3* (four if it was hotter) - entertainment 2 * - service 4* - bar 2* and overall for the holiday 3 and a half stars. Basically get a good deal and you will enjoy this no end, but if you pay top dollar you will not get value for money. Oh and forget about Gala night and the downstairs disco - they don't open it! Apart from for the football on the big screen which was great. So if you are there this summer enjoy the world cup. One final thing - if you close the patio door on your balcony you cannot hear the river.
