“Weekend in Chulilla”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

La Casa Serena was very good value and a good choice of stay for our weekend of walking in Chulilla. We found our hosts to be friendly, welcoming and generous. Of note was the high quality, varied and hearty breakfasts (exaclty the kind of food needed before a day's walking). We were also impressed by the offers of tea and snacks when most needed!
We found our hosts were able to provide good advice for our walking excursions, as well as recommendations for local restaurants and bars etc.
In short, highly recommended if you enjoy living quite close to your hosts and appreciate the advantages this can bring.

We have just come back from Chulilla and had the most magical time ever. It was our first visit to this beautiful village, and Casa Serena lived up to its marvellous reputation in every way. Peter and Richard were fantastic hosts. Chulilla itself is a hidden gem as is this guest house, and we would highly recommend it. We arrived quite late and were greeted by an ice cold beer and a warm welcome, and the house was beautifully clean with immaculate rooms and stunning views. We had the Sunflower room which was pretty and clean, with a lovely view from the terrace of Chulilla's lush green landscape. We could not fault the cleanliness and serene ambiance, and even the bathroom was cleaned every day with fresh towels. Richard and Peter made this charming house a home from home, with access to a pristine kitchen where we could prepare snacks and drinks when we wished. The breakfasts were excellent and beautifully served on the terrace, and Chulilla has plenty to do and see for nature lovers. There are lovely restaurants nearby, including Las Bodegas which is a short drive away, where you can sample perfectly prepared food of the highest standard - Antonio made our dining experience very special and was very informative about the local food and wines. Excellent value for money and top quality food. We are looking forward to going back to Casa Serena again. Thank you Richard and Peter for a wonderful stay. Alex and Mark ☺

Room Tip: The sunflower or the pink double room, as these have lovely views.

Casa Serena completely lives up to it's charming name in every way. From the pretty winding Spanish street it occupies where the only passers by are those taking a stroll down to the stunning Charco Azul in the canyon to the top class accommodation and wonderfully warm hosts Richard and Peter, this is a perfect get-away destination. Within easy reach of Valencia Airport, it's not long before you feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. If you're looking for a calm, relaxing break sampling life in a laid back traditional Spanish mountain village then this is for you. Equally, there's an abundance of activities available if that's your preference. From easy walks through leafy glades, swimming in natural pools and waterfalls to more challenging treks or rock climbing the infamous crags renowned by climbers from across the world, then this is for you too. There are shops and bars in the village where you can buy all you need for your stay, though a light lunch is recommended as the sumptuous breakfasts served here will give you a great start to the day! Richard and Peter are happy to serve breakfast on a very individualised basis; you can choose the time you eat so this is great whether you want an early start or a long lie in and the menu is varied across the days. I stayed for a week and had a different breakfast every day! The rooms are beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean with comfy beds (I have been before and have stayed in three of their rooms) and nothing is too much trouble for these friendly hosts who have a wealth of knowledge to assist you gained from ten years of living in the village running their Guest House. The terrace offers breathtaking views (where breakfast is served) across the valleys framed by imposing mountains, surrounded by an abundance of natural flora and fauna. The castle is well worth a visit too, offering unprecedented views across the top of the village and beyond. Quite simply the best!!

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and peaceful with wooden shutters on the windows if you want to keep the early s...

How do you make your guests feel welcome? If you don’t know, visit Peter en Richard. They will teach you. We had a lovely and relaxing stay. Stunning views, lovely breakfast. The house is shining and clean.
Chulilla is a nice little village, only one hour drive from Valencia.
Great for walking, only downside: the maps from the tourist information aren’t that great.

I was one of a group of five who stayed with Peter and Richard for 5 days over new years 2011. Hand on heart I can say that they provided the best hosting I've ever experienced. As well as good company they were both very helpful in aspects of climbing, food and knowledge of the local area. The hosts were also very accommodating when it came to breakfast, providing a good start to the day and flexibility - particularly handy after a late new years!

Chulilla is both stunning and peaceful and the local people were charming. Add to this the wealth of quality climbing (our groups purpose) that the area has to offer and you have somewhere to thoroughly enjoy. La Casa Serena itself is kept to a very high standard by Peter and Richard and is a fantastic base to return to after a days climb. The kitchen is well equipped and the view from the veranda could hardly be better.

All that remains is to say thankyou once more for making a huge contribution to an excellent trip; I look forward to our return!
