So i was here a coulpe days ago, i went there with a couple friends and we had a great time, i was very pleased witht the food, i eat alot and the fact that all of the meals are in a buffet style, makes every dollar worth it.

We took a Hike on their trails, unfortunately we stayed for over an hour waiting for the Quetzal, but it never came out, beyond that, i enjoyed my stay.

The rooms are very nice and well equipped, i recommend staying in a Junior Suite or a Quetzal Deluxe.

This is a magical place. The grounds are well planted and kept up nicely. There are hummingbird feeders that attract several different types of hummers, some of which have become so tame they will fly right up to you - so close it is hard to take pictures! There are also fruit feeders that attract tanagers and other birds for an easy view. You can see these feeders from some of the tables in the restaurant. The food is good, the waiters attentive and always smiling. But the best part is the birding guides. We have taken several guided birding trips. The morning trips lasted almost 5 hours (2-3 hours is normal at other places), and we saw a wonderful diversity of birds including, of course, the magnificent resplendant quetzal male with full tail feathers. The junior suites are large and nicely appointed. It does get cool in the evening becaus of the altitude (~6000 ft). We also enjoyed a trip to the Las Robles Bar for happy hour (try the guaro sour) and the Rio Spa for a massage and a dip in the huge hot tub. All in all, a really lovely spot.

Room Tip: Junior suites are more expensive but probably worth it. Other than that, there are not any bad room...

We recently stayed at the Savegre Mountain Lodge. (Apr. 22-27th). Our room was great. We had a fireplace that we lit each night and our room was kept warm until morning. The outside temp. was between 8 and 12 C, but it was wonderful, but by noon it was 26!! We have been to Costa Rica 3 times now, and this trip was one of the best!! I'd much rather be at the end of a dirt road, than at a resort with 100's of annoying tourists!! We originally planned to have a spa visit, but unfortunately, ran out of time. That's how busy we were. The food was great!! If tourists don't want to eat Costa Rican food, don't come to Costa Rica! Too many other vacation spots are spoiled by people who don't want to accept another culture's food and way of life.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 147. Very close to the bar and restaurant. Lovely fireplace. Super comfortable bed...

Have stayed here twice, and will return. The complex is beautiful. Well landscaped with lots of birds and butterflies. The rooms, we have stayed in 3 different ones, are nice and comfortable. You are at 2200m so nights are cool. The restaurant was good, with many choices on the buffet. The staff is very attentive, knows who you are and what your drink preferences are, from meal 1. We have taken a number of guided birding tours with great success. Saw lots of birds and got fabulous pictures. The Spa, with a special massage for birders (feet, neck, and shoulders) wraps up the stay.

The grounds of this hotel is beautiful and has many different kinds of hummingbirds bustling along the paths, around the plants, and even right next to you.

We came to this area to see the quetzal. The immediate area here may not be the ideal place for quetzal watching. We stayed here two nights and we overheard other guests' birding experience. Fortunately we knew of a guide in Cerro de la muerte, and we went with him and did see a pair of quetzal. I recommend that you have to hire a local bird guide if you want to see the resplendent quetzal.

The road down to the hotel is not paved. It takes about 25 minutes to get down to the hotel. Having said that, the weather is a lot warmer here than on the mountain, which is where the access road starts.

We picked this hotel because it has private trails, and it is recommended by a costa Rica bird book.

We have a choice of a standard room and a junior suite, which is about $30 more than the standard room. We took the junior suite and I think it is worth it. They also have full board options, and I would recommend that if you want to have a relaxing experience and don't have to go out to hunt for food.

There is a clothes line in the bathroom, which is a nice feature.

The staff, from the front desk to the restaurant, is very helpful and patient.

There are a few things that the hotel can tighten up. For example, the mirror in our bathroom is cracked. The shower head is off the wall.

Room Tip: If you want WiFi, ask for a room that is close to the bar.

The room was excellent, especially the overflow bath tub. Beautiful gardens with multiple birds especially hummingbirds. More cameras and equipment by guests than anywhere we have been. Took hikes and photographed the resplendent/ male and female together. Definately a time to remember.

The Lodge is beautifully situated at the end of a deep valley, and there is a range of great walks up into the surrounding forest, which you can take directly from the hotel.
The initial impression is of a very'up market' lodge, but once we settled in we found the standards more modest. Everything was fine, the food decent (self service) and central facilities - a lovely bar with fire, and good sitting areas - were good. Our room was small and comfortable, with a plug-in heater (it was quite cool at night).
It's hard to compare with the several other hotels and lodges in the area, but for us it was worth it for the walking opportunities.
